yea i toured the campus a couple summers ago! it was very nicely built and new and personally i love it!
And quite a few new buildings since then. We were really impressed by the campus. Even some professors took time out of their day to talk with us. Itās up and coming.
Yea I totally agree! I was really impressed and I love the campus. It is in the middle of no where but I donāt think that as a student I will be going out of the campus as much.
Accepted for Bio w/human emphasis!
And got regents scholarship for a full ride!!!
How did you get this scholarship? Where did you apply? Thanks.
Just checked my portal and the message center displays a new message: ā Weāre still working on your applicationā¦ We expect to have all on-time first year applications reviewed by the end of the day March 31, 2021 and all on-time transfer applications reviewed by the end of the day April 30, 2021. ā
Every applicant is considered based on the UC application for the scholarship. There is no separate application. Hope this helps!
Just checked the portal and it was updated. My son was accepted for Computer Science & Engineering.
My daughter was called last week from admissions and was accepted for Psychology. I am worried about dorming because we were told there is no guarantee for transfer housing. Only for incoming freshman and due to Covid.
Anyone knows if UCM is a decent pre-med school or not? Iām worried if I commit here, I will run into difficulty down the road. I wonder how selective UCM has been this year and how does it compare with USD and USF? @Gumbymom : would appreciate your advice.
Pre-Med is an intention so which major are your pursuing and always have a backup/Plan B?
You want to attend a school where you have the best chance for a High GPA in the Medical school pre-req courses, access to medically related ECās and a school with good Pre-Med advising. You also want to keep undergrad costs at a minimum. In general you need a place where you can thrive as studentāacademically, socially and personally. Medical schools are looking for students who are not just top students academically, but also interesting, well rounded individuals with specific social competencies and leadership skills.
Thank you @Gumbymom . I have been accepted in biology (I think it is human biology) at UCM and at University of San Diego. USD is way more expensive and I am leaning towards UCM. But Iām not sure about the track record of UCM in getting students accepted to medical schools. I know medical schools choose students based on their GPAs and MCAT scores, research, and recommendation letters; but I donāt know how much they weigh RLs from UCM professors , etc. USD is going to be very hard for me and my parents to afford, unless we have better chances for a med school I prefer to stay away from this option. I am just trying not to shatter my future chances by opting to go to a cheaper public school that may not be as good as my other option. Difficult times to digest what has happened and what should be my nextāmost rationaleāmove. Would appreciate yours and others advice.
You might want to reach out to the Medical Advising team at UC Merced to ask your questions.

Affordability is important since Medical school will be even more expensive so you will not want to burden yourself or parents with an expensive undergrad.
Good question! My daughter is on the same path just in different fields. She was accepted to the UCM program for psychology and LA Sierra University. She plans to pursue medical school for psychiatric. La Sierra is linked with Loma Linda University but itās so expensive. I am grateful she was accepted to UCM but worried if UCM is not recognized as prestigious compared to other universities.
Prestige does not get you into Medical school, high GPA, high MCAT scores and Medically related ECās are what is important.
A long time acquaintance of mine did her undergrad at UCM in Biology and went to Med school at Loma Linda University.
If I havenāt heard back from UCM as a transfer student for Fall 2021, should I take that as a bad sign? I saw they posted on their twitter about welcoming new students.
i got the ucm inviting to apply thingy
Iām not sure I know what that is?
count me in program
