Hey,
I recently applied to UC merced and Cal state pomona as a pre-med. Which of the schools has better opportunities for pre-med students?
Thanks

Cal State Pomona? There is no such thing! You mean Cal Poly Pomona. I also had admission offers from the two and chose Cal Poly Pomona, but I’m majoring in an engineering discipline. The two Cal Polys (with SLO at the top) are rendered “crown jewels” of the CSU system, whereas UC Merced is among the least (if not THE least) reputable University of California campus–and costs twice as much as Cal Poly Pomona. At Cal Poly Pomona you are within driving distance from world-class hospitals where you can volunteer or intern (e.g. Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, Cedars-Sinai, LA Children’s, Pomona Valley, USC/LA County Hospital, City of Hope, etc, etc, etc).

It is true that UC’s are more expensive.
But UC Merced will be starting a medical school. And, in the mean-time:
