Is this a good, solid music theatre department for someone who is very interested in pursueing this?

UC Berkeley is NOT what would be considered a ‘great’ musical theater school.
For those schools, you may want to check out the very active musical theater section on this board. Also remember that there is a significant difference at many schools between an MT major and someone who is an enthusiast. Be sure to check if non-major can audition for performances at any school you may be interested in.

That said, their theater department is fine but not generally the reason people want to go to UCB.

UCLA has a fabulous theater department - by audition - and
UC Irvine does have a small but ‘great’ musical theater department.

Thanks so much…and im an MT major, btw

UCIs musical theater department is small

Most UCs are not known for Drama and Theater (UCLA being the exception)

CSUs are famous for them though especially CSU Fullerton

Check out The University of Michigan for MT since you are from NY. One of the best.

Plenty of knowledgeable posters and depth of info on a large number of programs.

Hi, I’m in highschool I get good grade. I have a 3.5 unweighted gpa but a 4.2 weighted gpa because I take AP and honors classes. I want to audition for the theather program at Berkeley but i don’t know if my grades are good enough? Do grade count more then the talent?
