When did you file your FAFSA?
Literally one day before the deadline. That could be it? @StoneTower
@StoneTower I don’t have mine yet, because I just sent them my proof of citizenship, but how do you get Pell Grant and UCR Grant? I didn’t apply for Cal Grant, because apparently I wasn’t eligible.
@CancelOut Mine doesn’t show my cal grant and I applied in January so I don’t think that’s why.
Maybe it depends on which cal grant? I have a cal grant B. I think we just have to wait later since its a renewal at a different school?
@BlockBAP at community college they only
Give you cal grant B because cal grant A is like 15,000. Yeah mines hasn’t been processed yet. So I can’t submit a change of school request yet.
Does applying for FAFSA automatically apply you for calgrant?
I have to send in paperwork to verify that I’m an independent student, which ideally I’ll send out tomorrow. So, hoping for quick processing and good news.
@CancelOut That’s probably why then! But maybe Calgrant B students haven’t shown up yet? I’m CalGrant A so…
@NewSocio I always just got the pell grant with my fafsa. From info from Growl:
UCR Grant: UCR Grants are awarded to eligible on-time undergraduate financial aid applicants who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens. Awards are based on financial need.
Pell Grant: Federal Pell Grants are available to eligible undergraduate and Teaching Credential students who are U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens. Undergraduate students may not have earned a previous Bachelor’s degree. Pell Grant eligibility is determined by the federal government and is based on the student’s expected family contribution. Award amounts are subject to proration for less than full-time enrollment.
My EFC is 500 dollars. I’m disappointed I didn’t qualify for the Blue and Gold Program actually.
Does anyone know if the blue and gold plan is based on efc or just income?
It’s supposed to be for students who’s families make less than 80,000 a year. My mom only makes 18,000 a year.
@StoneTower and you didn’t qualify with an efc of 500?! That doesn’t make any sense. I’ve been banking on the blue and gold plan. I honestly have no idea how I’ll be able to go without it.
@kristyalene Yeah, but it says it may be subject to change. I’m hoping that’s the case here. I don’t want to be a complete burden on my mom for the rest of my college years. My dad isn’t really in the picture so it’s on us to try and pay for everything and I’m really nervous I won’t be able to afford ANY of the UC’s I applied to.
@StoneTower my efc is 5400 which basically means suck it in terms of aid. I think I’m gonna try and appeal to have them only look at my income, because it’s my assets that are making it a problem. Paying for school is 100% me, my assets are life insurance that is all pretty much tied up and I won’t have any of come the fall, much less extra for school. So, I’m going to have to try and stay calm and just wait until I get mine.
@kristyalene Well good luck! I hope they listen to you! Seriously, everyone should at least be able to eat come college time!
Where are you guys viewing your EFC on the awards? My EFC said 0 when I submitted the fafsa.
@CancelOut I got mine off the student aid report (?) on the fafsa website.
Based off what you guys are saying, I’m guessing a EFC of 0 is good?
@cancelout That’s the best kind you can get. I think I made a mistake on my FAFSA based on what someone told me in the financial aid forum, so I’m seeing how/if I can change it and get my EFC down.
@kristyalene Did you get a Cal Grant or a SEOG grant along with your aid?
@Cancelout I don’t know what I SEOG grant is. And I haven’t gotten any aid notifications yet. When I get on GROWL it says my application is incomplete. I have to send in paperwork to verify that I am independent. So, I’m assuming that after I get those in, I’ll get my award thing.
