In case anyone is curious, there is a transfer groupme group going on
class of 2020 facebook group ! https://www.facebook.com/groups/907865982655678/
That link isn’t working /:
@RoseSTi I remade the group so people can join who’s not within the UCR group that required a ucr email.
https://www.facebook[.]com/groups/223567011346875/ and spread the word
@kl0097 The link doesn’t work :(. Even after I removed the brackets.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1024868734216908/ @72soop that should work!! But you have to copy the link and where you see those little stars just write in Facebook .com and then it will work. For some reason, it doesn’t post the facebook part here
Does anyone know how to pay the tuition/SIR fee? Are those the same? I couldn’t find anywhere to pay a tuition deposit or fee and I know most schools require that. When I submitted my SIR, I didn’t have to pay any fee. It might have something to do with my financial situation. I got my application fee waived. I don’t know if that has anything to do with it. Also, when I submitted my SIR, it said something about a deferred payment plan or something.
@Talon97 It could be that your SIR fee was waived. If you’re family’s income was considered low enough you may not have to pay. If you want to make sure I would call
@dgrenas793 Okay. That’s what I was thinking it might have been. I will call them to be sure. Thank you!
Also, I recently completed my housing application and submitted my deposit. My housing package that I applied for is $16,693. However, after I had submitted the application, I realized that on the GROWL, it says that $16,400 goes towards room and board. That means that the plan that I chose is $293 over. Does this mean that I have to pay this out of pocket or does it go back as a loan? Or will my financial aid adjust to cover it? I doubt anyone could answer this but I thought it would be worth a shot. I called and the person that answered was a little unhelpful.
Your question is a little confusing but I’ll tell you what I believe will most likely happen. The 16,400 is an estimate they give ALL students as to what it will cost to live on campus in the residence halls. Estimate being the key word here. If you so happen to choose a residence hall which goes over their estimate (which you did), then it really is up to you how to come up with the money. The only reason they give you that 16,400 number is just to give you a picture of what it might cost to live on campus. The 16,400 number is really just an estimate, so I really wouldn’t give it much attention. Assuming you will receive some type of financial aid, your award money (which are your combined grants and loans accepted) will first pay off tuition, and then housing afterwards. So if you’re particular award package (loans included) is not enough to cover your housing that you chose, then yes, you will have to find some other way to come up with the money.
Take your total award package:
A: (Cal Grant (if applicable) + UCR Grant + Pell (if applicable) + Loans + Any Outside scholarships).
Now separately add your:
B: (Tuition + YOUR housing fee - 16,693).
If B is greater than A, then you will have to find another source of money to come up with that difference. Since your award package was exhausted.
I know it can be confusing but hopefully this helped a little
@dgrenas793 Yes. Thank you!! I know my question was weird. But this definitely helped!!
Should I also factor in costs of books and the personal costs and transportation?
Yes, whatever your costs are for personal expenses and books should be something you definitely budget for. Usually the school gives a high estimate, and if you’re smart about buying your books online and limiting your spending, you’ll find their estimate is a bit high.
For those of you recently accepted at ucr who are going to enroll and may have previously deposited at csulb, please cancel with csulb right away, and specifically cancel with the housing department there. There are people on the waiting list for housing there - including my son. He really wants to have the dorm experience. Thank you
Not related at all, but does anyone know if there’s a Facebook page yet?
@itsjustme95 Yes there is.
@72soop what is it?
facebook.com/groups/1606266082987702/ class of 2020 fb page guys
I was thinking of applying for the UCR honors program and wanted to see my chances of getting in. What gpa and act/sat score do you think will guarantee my acceptance?
