Yeah, I’m waiting on Business Econ their top 5 most applied to major. So most likely I’ll get into my alternate major which is just Econ, given I even get in. Either that or off waitlist at CPP. Really the only options right now for me sigh.
They’re a freshman applicant although they do have fairly low stats compared to many other uc applicants to put it nicely. I believe he had a 3.1 gpa
I really appreciate this thread. Question…would you choose UCR or Cal Poly SLO for biomedical engineering? I am leaning toward UCR because it’s closer to metropolitan cities. I know SLO has a good engineering program but I don’t think the quiet small town feel is for me. I would love thoughts. Am I making a mistake choosing UCR over SLO??
Is a great deal of diversity an important aspect in your choice of campus?
Diversity is a BIG plus for me. I know it’s lacking at SLO. My other choice is SDSU. I just thought UCR was better ranked than SDSU.
I wonder if the fact that UCR has a medical school would be a benefit to you in terms of opportunity for research and such. It’s reputation for that major may be good. I’d do some googling. That said, you’ll likely be with a a lot of premed majors, so it may be a competitive (vs collaborative) environment. But I know nothing about that, just speculating about possibilities.
Also, while Riverside is a “big city,” to me, it’s very spread out and is not a city like SF or even SJ. I would look on Niche both at UCR and the city.
You have great choices. Such an exciting time.
I think you would really like UCR. Both of my kids liked the campus and loved the diversity on campus when we toured. There’s a metrolink station pretty close where you can pay $10 to ride for the whole day on the weekend. Pretty easy to get to Orange County, downtown LA & Beach in San Clemente.
Where are you from?
I wish they’d just release decisions already
we all do but as someone posted on this thread a few days back. Based on previous years decision dates it seems majority come out on the last monday and tuesday of march.
Sorry if this is an off-the-wall question. Does anyone have thoughts on UC Riverside’s Eaton Collection of Science Fiction & Fantasy or the SFCS program. These would have been of interest to me if I were doing it all over again. My son is less of a fan of written science fiction, but it might still be a draw if he is going to UCR anyway.
Does this affect the campus culture in any way? E.g., is there an active science fiction club? (My alma mater way back boasted of a famous science fiction author on the faculty, though he had not written much in years. He was our club advisor, and though it was not a big part of my reasons for attending, it was a fun thing to be able to point to.)
anyone get any updates? Im still on considering.
Same here
has anyone gotten their financial aid award letter yet
i thought berkeley was last to come out tho?
I mean for first decisions yes UCB is last because no one has gotten anything from them yet. UCR just finishes late but starts earliest. They take the longest of all the UCS which may be good or bad depending on the person idek. Those that got in vs people like me still waiting
i’ve never felt more impatient. Anybody got any updates?
No luck. The wait is excruciating. At least we know there’s only a few days left of March so it should come soon.
Thank you for your response and advise, jesse_sgirl and CopperlineX2. This is a hard choice. I think SLO has a better engineering program but doesn’t have the diversity and energy that I was hoping for. I really thought I had the stats to get into the other UCs, so I am feeling frustrated. Do I pick the program or the campus/environment???
SLO is trying to address the diversity issue:
As for energy, that’s subjective based on one’s perspective. But I can see how SLO may not be a Cal/UCLA/UCSB/Davis kinda school in terms of energy. But those schools have about 2x as many students on campus too.
