I was accepted to UCSB in 2021 as a senior in high school and decided to take a gap year for mental health. I asked UCSB how I could do this and they told me I had to re apply this year, so I did. I was just waitlisted. i do not know how to feel, i am just sad.

Son admitted for Mechanical Engineering. We are thrilled, but he’ll probably pass it over for UCLA or elsewhere. He seriously fears the housing situation at UCSB, particularly that whole windowless dorm possibility. (Not sure how legit that is, but it’s fine). Best of luck to all!

For future reference: 4.0uw, 4.5 something weighted 10-12, never did figure out the exact capped UC gpa. 13 APs (5s on the 8 he has taken), two college math courses, National merit scholar, heavily involved in robotics with leadership role, varsity swim
captain, band for all 4 years. Great essays, some hardship, underrepresented minority. Perfect ACT score, but didn’t count of course this year. Was relieved the rest was enough. My advice to future applicants: don’t count on anything, even if you have the stats. Apply widely and have a safety school somewhere you’d be happy to be and can afford to go.

OH MY GOD SAME!! I GOT WL AT SO MANY OTHER UCS I THOUGHT IT WAS TOO LATE FOR ME

Admitted to Computer Engineering, in state bay area (male)

3.91/4.27/4.55
10+ APs/Honors
ELC

Good ECs including National Merit Finalist, international robotics awards, political volunteering, president positions etc.

Other Decisions: Bad luck at the rest of the UCs – rejected from UCLA, waitlisted at UCI, Davis, UCSD, Regents and Honors at UC Santa Cruz, accepted at Merced/Riverside.

Waitlisted at Northeastern and Cal Poly SLO for Computer Engineering,

Accepted to UIUC Grainger Computer Engineering and Purdue First Year Engineering as well.

Accepted to CU Boulder with Presidential Scholarship, UW Madison, University of British Columbia, San Jose State.

I’m unspeakably happy right now – this was my last chance to stay in state, and it looks like UCSB pulled through for me  I had terrible luck on March 18th, but it looks like the UCs are truly independent of each other.

I first visited UCSB back in 10th grade – UCSB was the very first campus I ever visited and it’s been my dream UC ever since

Barring anything exceptional at the other UCs, I’m probably committing here.
