UC SAT / ACT suspension for Class of 2021

Thoughts?
1/ What does it mean for kids who have taken it and wanted to increase their scroes?

2/ What does it mean for kids who have not yet taken it and now cant take it?

3/ What does it mean for kids who have taken it and nailed it the first time? How can they make it equal for anyone?

@pingu2020 . . . I’m thinking that it depends on other colleges. If only UC is the one who suspends the boards, then it’s not really going to affect things. I also think that there can be safe ways to take the boards; I think UC should have looked into this before suspending the requirement.

I’m thinking a good score can help you application whereas having a bad score or not taking the test at all won’t hurt your application.

I was thinking the same thing. They will take it into consideration like they do subject tests.

DS21 is about to submit to UCLA and UCB. I thought that they had gone “test prohibited” and I told him not to submit his SAT score but now I’m seeing that there was a court stay placed on that order - is that correct? I think I’m going to tell him to submit just in case, and eat the cost if the score ends up being ignored, because he scored above the 75th% for both campuses so it can only help him. I just hate to waste the test score money if it’s going to be tossed in the trash!

@sherimba03 Your son can’t submit until Nov 1.

@lkg4answers so they’re allowed to submit SAT/ACT scores, but not until Nov. 1? I can’t find anything online that speaks to that - can you provide the link please?

The UC application filing period is Nov 1-30. Your son can work on his application now but can’t submit until Nov 1.

If nothing changes in the next two weeks then he should be able to include his test scores on his application. Whether they are read by the different schools will vary based on school policy.

@sherrimba03:

I understand it does not cost money to self report until you are actually admitted - unless I misunderstand this:

The specific guideline from the link above:

Students can self-report ACT and/or SAT scores on the admission application.
If a student self-reports a test score, they should provide the official score report when they receive an offer of admission from UC.
