UC Transfer Applicants - Come Join

Does anyone know if Engineering grad school (such as Stanford or MIT) look only at the upper division course grades or the entire 4 year sequence? The reason is b/c I am planning to transfer to Cal and fear that my GPA is going to take a huge hit. Any experts have any advice????

mosharma134, precisely what I want to know...any1?

If you have over 70 units and the UCs only allow 70 to be transfered does that mean we can pick and choose the units we want transfer?

mike168.. you don't pick, they pick.

you guys my friend got accepted to ucla today

I thought decisions are out wednesday?

that's what i thought and that's what she thought too. but i guess they started today. oh my god it's scary

Congrats to your friend!

Hey guys, I found this transfer report and study by UCSD on it's incoming transfer students. The report is pretty interesting. The report was compiled in 1999; never the less, it should be quite similar to the recent yrs' data. The data shows several instances of transfer students performing equal or better than the freshman entering students. However, some of the sentences scared me !

For example, in the Transfer Student Academic Profile II it says,

Nevertheless, the fact that about one-quarter of the transfer students entering UCSD do not graduate is of concern to us.

Some other interesting data documents are available as you scroll down to the bottom of the page.

Make sure to check out your major and the first yr GPA avg for that major. Also mentioned in the document is your CC and the 1st yr GPA (DeAnza didn't do that bad...)

The graduation reten and graduation rates are also scaring me...It says about 76% of us finish in 4 yrs after we transfer.

The last document is pretty pleasing atleast for my major....

Please post your reactions to this.

i dont care
i believe they underestimate our community college students

indie_boy, 4 years?? Thats crazy! I was planning on completing 60 units in 2.
I checked out the ave GPA document, and am a little scared. After transfer we'll have to work twice as hard to maintain a decent GPA. I'm hoping I won't screw up my chances at grad school. :(

wow those charts are pretty scary indie_boy.. i just don't understand how transfer psych majors can have a gpa below 3.0...

ahh crap i checked at noon and there was no decision yet, and I just tried to log on after reading your post but the site closed at 8:00???
Why do they close for 12 hours/day??? Not like the servers need sleep.
I can't imagine them taking 12 hours to update. :(

ya, i dont even have enough money (0$ aid no greencard-citizenship) to cash in for more than 2 yrs. I must, somehow, work my ass off and finish in 2 yrs.

What I am thinking is....This is just an averege...meaning many of us will be well above the given numbers. Let us decide our own fate by giving in a 100% of hard work...I hope all the partying will not screw me up. lol

12 hours to update is good...especially if it is done during the nite. Hopefully, during the update, my name (rejected or accepted) will appear on the server. I just want this suspense to end......

Wow indie_boy u have to pay the tuition/housing/food/books without any aid? At least you get in-state tuition right? That totally blows. If i had to work 40hrs/week to pay for school, my GPA would be around 2.00. I feel like such a spoiled brat right now. Thanks for the reality check!

tifania, yes I am lucky enough to be eligible for in-state fees. This is the reason I have applied only to the UCz. The privates and Ivies (or even the UCz) will hopefully come to light for my grad school. For now, my parents have agreed to fund me for the next two yrs or till I get my greencard...When I start earning, I will eventually repay the favors.

U have great parents! :)

thanks :)

oh my god i am getting nervous every single sec. this is not funny. the system is closed and i keep checking it every minute. i am gonna go crazy like this. i am majoring in psychology and i need a psychologist myself
