UC Transfer Major and Essay

I've been struggling with this question lately and hope someone could help me with it.
For my transfer major to UCB, I placed Economics at the College of Letter and Science, but for the personal essay "Intended Major" I wrote a 750 word essay about the "Marketing" as my intended major. Will this affect my overall chance of getting into UCB or any other UCs that aren't in the field of "Marketing"?

Thanks in advance and Happy New Years everyone!

Happy New Years!

I can’t answer your question because every year is different and, depending on what you wrote about, solely depends on the admission officer.

The only thing that’s sort of odd is, if marketing is your major, why didn’t you apply to Haas? As far as strictly relating to the major, I don’t think there are any rules. I’m sure Econ majors write about ibanking and bus admin majors right about consulting etc.

Also aren’t the combined essays supposed to be under 1000? 750 seems like a lot. Good luck!

Thank you lawlking and emprex for replying to this thread!

Thanks lawlking for giving me that insight, I’ll probably call in the admissions when they are off the break and see if it’s alright for me. :)

Thanks emprex, that was my mindset when I wrote the essay as well, thinking that it would work out the other way, as an essay is an essay. The reason I didn’t apply to School of Haas is because I heard from a friend in UCB that the Econ Major in College of Letter and Science have marketing classes…? Perhaps I should’ve chosen School of Haas instead… but isn’t School of Haas way harder to apply and is a graduate school instead of undergraduate?
Oh and for the essay yes, I wrote 750 words for the #1 Personal Statement and 250 words for the #2 Personal Statement. Thanks again! :)

I just realized I wrote right instead of write lol oops! Haas is undergrad too and yes is more difficult but you’ll be fine. At the undergrad level I don’t think Haas offers a concentration in marketing so it’s not a big deal. Good luck :)
