@hoppy1 I remember reading something that showed the GPA CCC vs UC was basically the same, a minor drop. I can’t find it but I did find the “average” GPAs transfer vs freshman. While these are low because they are the average, what it does show consistently is that transfers have higher “averages” than their native counterparts. (See link.)
In my case, my GPA went down .1 from the CCC.
And the other interesting (shocking) thing when I attended there was a site (in addition to Berkeleyside, I forget the name) that showed the final grade distribution in detail for each class and virtually all — even engineering — were As and Bs, with just a few Cs and the random D. Engineering had a higher B-cluster. Now that bothers many engr students because they were top dog A students at the CCC.
Assuming your son did well at the CCC he should be fine.

@ucbalumnus
Thank you so much! That is encouraging. My oldest son was never confident
in his academics till he started CC. CC changed his life. He started worrying
after he got acceptance to UCB.
@Ohm888
He earned GPA 3.96 at CC(one B in his first English in first semester).
I thought his grades would go down to 2.5 or something, at least that is
what I was told.
Your GPA only went down by .1! That is very impressive.
Well it was Media Studies (no shame!!) and some Haas. But still, you need to be on top of it for sure but it’s not as bad as it might seem. BTW, make sure your son takes advantage of the free writing lab for essays, especially first term.
Wow, another useful information. Thank you yet again!
I am sure he will need help in that area.
His first English professor at CC was Yale graduate and it was
a tough class. He finally got A- on his essay assignment at the
very last of the semester.
@ProfessorPlum168 Where do you find the published syllabi?
I did not see any on Berkeleytime, but perhaps there is a tab I missed.
@spiritualgift a lot of classes, such as lower division CS classes will have their syllabus published. CS61A.org, prob140.org, etc. For other courses, you could use a service website like Course Hero which may have copies as well. Some of the department websites can also have links to course content as well.
Thank you! Have you already transferred yet? Would love to hear your experience.
@giveitem I have not transferred yet. I met with the advisor last year to find out more about Cal’s history program. She gave me a lot of great advice about transferring in and what to expect once I transfer. I start in Fall.
