UCB/UCLA/UCSB for Actuarial Science

Just thought I'd see what you all on College Confidential thought about this:

I'll be applying this year for transfer. I have a 4.0 (so far, with 1 W) and will satisfy all the prerequisites, and will have IGETC done, and I worked as a tutor at my school (and did some private tutoring), and I worked at a magic shop, and I got a super-tutor certificate (I think that counts as an award), and I did some event volunteering, so I feel like I have a pretty solid base of activity.

I'm confident I can get into wherever I want, but I don't know where I OUGHT to go. Everyone cries Berkeley, Berkeley, it's the school with high prestige! You'll go far if you go to Berkeley. But I can think of several good reasons to go to UCSB or UCLA. Namely:

Possible Double major in Math and Act Sci (UCSB)
Quarter system implies fewer classes at a time (more consistent with my learning style)
Distance from home (I'm sick of the SF/Bay Area)
Actuarial-specific classes (not offered at UCB)

What do you guys think? Is the prestige of going to UCB important enough to outweigh the above?

-Sega

My Dad is an Actuary, and it doesn’t matter where you go to school, or what degree you get, as long as it’s a quantitative degree. If you want to be an Actuary, make sure you pass 2 exams and get at least one internship while in college.

The Berkeley statistics department mentions actuarial preparation:

[Be an Actuary](http://www.beanactuary.com/) describes general actuarial preparation. Specific “Validation by Educational Experience” courses at each school are listed here:

Note that introductory economics courses taken at your community college may fulfill the economics part of the “Validation by Educational Experience”.
