UCD Class of 2013

Just a silly question guys… does Ramble apartments come with the stuff in the picture? Like the beds and junk.

the word you’re looking for is “furnished”, just incase you ask the people at davis and want them to immediately know. i know how frustrating it is to explain something then later learn theirs a word you could have just used.

@bakemaster, could you explain the part you said to mytime and rshie? kinda confused about that part.

lol, thanks for that word. I could probably explain it to you. what are you confused about/

does anyone know how much people paying a month for dorm? because i wanna compare the price of ramble apartment (around 800/month) with dorm price. and also if you live off campus can you use dining hall for lunch or breakfast?

Residence Halls : http://www.housing.ucdavis.edu/__pdf/Shared/2010%20ResHall%20Rate%20Schedule.pdf</a></p>

SSA: http://www.housing.ucdavis.edu/__pdf/Shared/2010%20SSA%20Fee%20Schedule.pdf</a></p>

I believe you can purchase a meal plan if you live off campus. But don’t take my word for it.

I’m still confused on the whole off campus-on campus cost. I hear that it decreases if you go off-campus but some people say that ucd calculated our need based on off-campus and also some say it doesn’t decrease at all from on-off campus.

I spoke someone from the financial aid office yesterday. He informed me that if you change your plan to off campus your aid goes down about $4,000.

You can refer this this last year’s estimated cost of attendance here : http://facts.ucdavis.edu/documents/undergraduate_cost_of_attendance.pdf</a> in wwlink’s post a couple pages back. It shows about a $3,000 difference that comes out of your aid, since it’s cheaper to live off campus. I’m assuming that prices went up on campus or went down around campus or both, hence decreasing aid if you’re living off campus.

I don’t see how that’d be, as setup with On-campus housing, I’d get about $13,000 in grants. The total cost of living either way is waaay more.

Are you saying if I change that to off campus, they’ll cut that to $9000?! Ouch!

If you’re getting about $13,000 now with on-campus living status. They’ll cut around $4,000 if you change to off-campus so you’ll be around $9,000 lol. Sorry for that confusion

@bakemaster - so since I qualify for blue + gold, I am guaranteed a FA package that will cover tuition? Just want to make sure of that since I know blue + gold guarantees coverage of system wide fees.

ALSOOO, I am thinking about getting a furnished room at Ramble. But is it worth the extra 25 bucks for 12 months? lol

I choose to take the furnished room. I even changed a 3 bedroom preference for the months free rent. It’s totally worth to get it furnished. I’m not sure what you get, but an extra $300 and you get all the furniture you need for a year? Sounds like a plan!

^ I totally forgot about the 1 month free for the 3x3’s. I’ve been planning on a 4x4 since it’s $750 per month compared to $800. But I just did the math… 800 x 11 = 8800, 750 x 12 = 9000. $200 savings which could go towards the furnishing fees. Hmm interesting…gosh, I should just send my application already. lol

Yeah, they’re really filling up. I sent my check in for the application fee/half of the deposit today too! My first ever check! Most exciting day of my life haha. Let me know if you have any questions though!

since the ramble lease is 12 months only, uc davis runs on a quarter system (9 months), so if you don’t plan on taking summer classes in ucd, you’ll be paying money off your pocket for the lease?

^ yes, exactly. one of the downsides, other there are plenty alternatives. but if you are taking summer class, i think it works out pretty well. (although move out date would cut into the last week or two of summer school lol)

Yeah, but that should be fine. 2 weeks of an hour and a half commute back to the bay. Might not be that bad. Or you could not take the second summer session. and just pay the second one out of pocket. I’m planning on finding a job somewhere in Davis anyway. So I might lease the next year if everything works out.

Just got an update on what comes with a furnished room:

Bedroom: queen-size bed with mattress, set of dressers, and desk with chair (maybe adding a nightstand). Dining Room: table and chairs, plus barstools. Living Room: sectional sofa, coffee table, end table, and entertainment stand.

I saw someone make this claim on the '13 transfers FB group. When you file your FAFSA you have to indicate your housing plans for each college you list, and when the college receives your FAFSA information they will see this information. I suspect the people saying it’s automatic have simply forgotten that they had to give this information on the FAFSA.

Can you be more specific? Are you confused about what Blue & Gold says, or about the difference between the aid coming from UCD and the aid coming from the federal government, or about something else?

I have to be careful with my wording here: Technically, as a CA resident, you don’t pay any tuition. Only non-resident students are charged the “tuition fee” (which seems kind of oxymoronic, but that’s what UC calls it). B&G guarantees that some form of gift aid will cover your “systemwide” fees, which are the ones charged by every UC regardless of which campus you attend. E.g., educational fee, registration fee, professional fee (grad students only), summer per-unit fee. If UCLA builds a brand new recreation center and decides to charge all their students an athletic use fee, for example, that’s not something covered by the B&G guarantee because it’s specific to UCLA rather than being systemwide.

Since you qualify for B&G, you are guaranteed enough gift aid (scholarships, grants, anything “free” that you don’t have to work for or repay) to cover systemwide fees, which are [$11,124 for 2011-12](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/news/factsheets/thefacts_fees_111710.pdf). This can come from any source, meaning if you get the full Pell Grant of $5,550 from the US Dept. of Ed., UC only has to come up with another $5,574 to meet its guarantee. Unfortunately, a full-time UCD undergraduate can expect to pay [url=http://budget.ucdavis.edu/studentfees/2011-2012-student-fees/2011-2012-estimated-student-fees/2010-11%20Undergrad%20Res.pdf]almost $3,000 in additional fees this year/url compared to the systemwide fees. B&G does not guarantee it will cover those fees.

That being said, everyone who has posted their financial aid package around here so far seems to have been given much more than the minimum guarantee under B&G. What that means is that they really don’t need to worry about B&G, practically speaking, because it only sets a minimum and they are already getting more than the minimum.

Since blue and gold is dependent upon the various grants and awards I received and all these awards are dispersed throughout the year, will I be able to pay the fees in time or at all?

They won’t bill you up front, like the CCs they get the grant $$ first and then give you what’s left (if anything)
