UCF Provost scholarship worth $ 20,000 versus FSU Freshman Scholarship worth $9,600

Which one should I take? I live in Orlando and UCF is like my back yard. UCF is so attractive and gaining in fame and fortune. Soon, I will be accepted for BS/MD programs in both schools. FSU looks more reputable for the medical program. Tough choice.

I would not let $10k influence my decision. I would pick the school that I felt would best serve me educationally and socially.

Sure about this?

The money difference is not compelling in this case. The difference in which school can make you the best MD, is however, compelling. Read these two articles about how FSU Med is doing, and who is praising them:

[Kirch praises College of Medicine and urges it to help fix health-care system](http://www.med.fsu.edu/?fuseaction=newsPubs.readNewsPub&fromHome=1&id=459) I am told it took UF Med decades to finally have the CEO of the AAMC speak on their campus.

[Sarasota campus a proving ground for Florida’s new med-school model](http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20100913/ARTICLE/9131051)

Which is worth about $10K? Why do you think UCF offers extra money in the first place? Money at state schools is very tight these days - everywhere.

UCF is offering money because it wants to be the best quickly. It’s an aggressive approach that some people think is working, especially with respect to their medical school.

I don’t care for UCF’s size and campus, but if those things work for you keep researching the program and their professors. I’ll bet the education will be similar and you’ll be that much less in debt for med school.

Your previous posts reflects the importance of the dollar. So take the money and go to UCF. Just know that lessor programs often entice with better offers.

Frankly, I don’t think the extra $10K (over 4 years ~$2500/yr) is sufficient compensation for attending a university that features a faculty-student ratio like the one UCF has at 31 to 1, compared to FSU or UF at around 21 to 1.

However, this is an individual decision. Good luck!

it really goes beyond just $10,000 more. It will be more to live away from home…it will cost more for clothing since Tallahassee is colder than Orlando. And if you are absolutely sure you want to be a doctor then you will be facing many more years of expensive schooling. Don’t get me wrong, I am very impressed with FSU, but the realities of becoming a doctor are what they are and graduating in debt is one of them. If UCF is more cost effective, and you are absoutely sure of the vocation, I’d strongly consider UCF. UCF did some very aggressive things to get their medical school up and running with exceptional students (I believe they gave free tuition to the first class). They are on tract with getting accreditation…but there’s no doubt FSU is more established. I would talk to people in the departments of both schools and run the numbers.
