UChicago 2015 Hopefuls

This school's the newest addition to my list (just decided I would apply today, actually :D). I'd actually been thinking about it for a long time, but a weekend trip to Chicago two weeks ago suddenly made it a lot more appealing. Add in the research I did about it after returning from the trip, and my college list is now officially 6 schools long. It still isn't a lot compared to what most people have, but it's enough for me. :)

Fellow Chicago '15 hopefuls, unite!

Heyyy! I’m so nervous and excited! It’s weird to think that in one year, I’ll be deciding where to go to college!

I’ll be applying.

silverturtle, you seem to be well prepared to get in anywhere (5000+ posts, 2+ yrs on CC!).

I probably won’t be mentioning this on my application. :)

Hi again goldysocks! I had no idea you were also considering Chicago… and hi again silverturtle! :stuck_out_tongue: I’m definitely going to be seeing quite a few of you very often over the next year or so…

^ Hello there.

Is anyone applying EA? If I don’t go with one of the restrictive early programs (Yale or Stanford), I will certainly be applying here early.

I’m considering applying EA… the question is whether I’ll be able to complete all those essays before the November 1st deadline :/

^ Yeah, I haven’t given much thought to what I will write yet.

Undecided whether I will apply here. Obviously the Chicago School of Economics is really appealing, but the whole stereotype of an introverted student body (I’m not making a statement on how factual the stereotype actually is) dissuades me from applying.

I’m sure no stereotype can capture the heterogeneity of any school’s student body, though UChicago students may, indeed, be more introverted on average than students of most other colleges.

Hence my little parenthetical addendum lol. As you have noted, stereotypes often do hold some truth and I’m definitely a bit apprehensive about applying due to the tendency of UofC students to be introverted.

Guys, UChicago’s student body is not “introverted.” They are warm, charming, albeit occasionally quirky people who love talking to you. I didn’t see any folks who give you a fierce look and then run away when you say hi to them and I don’t think very many exist at UChicago.

The only way I can imagine you being turned off by the student body is if you don’t like to be almost constantly enveloped in an intellectual environment. If the prospect of incessant academic conversation, whether regarding the sciences, humanities, or the arts, is a major turnoff for you, you may want to reconsider applying here.

My comment was intended not just to indicate the obvious incorrectness of the blanket statement, but also to perhaps allude to the irrelevance of individual tendencies with such a large sample.

I hope that you all fare well if you choose to apply. Chicago is a spectacular college!

I am actually acquainted with one individual who listed Facebook as his primary (first-listed) extracurricular activity. He stated that he wished to honestly and openly represent himself. He was admitted to five out of five (middle-tier) universities so I suppose that the admissions officers appreciated his honesty.

^ Thanks mifune! And that Facebook thing is hilarious – it would be interesting to see how adcoms at the top schools would have reacted to that if he had tried applying. :)

Probably not as favorably. He is a bit of a clown so I was not surprised.

I think there are probably plenty of people who list facebook as their favorite website(I think that was on the Stanford app?), but as far as top EC, whoa. Although, in honesty, most people could say that.
And hello fledgling! I imagine we will be seeing quite a bit of one another in the next few months!

I would personally never reply to that question with a social networking site. For those questions I simply responded with the given university’s website. It’s also a bit of a fawning tactic. :)
