UChicago 2025 RD Waitlist

Maybe you should be doing your schoolwork or perhaps figuring out your plans for fall, rather than declaring that those grapes were sour?

It could also mean, couldn’t it, that they admitted her off the wait list as they say they admit all students - need-blind?

Can you direct us to statements made on other college websites indicating that the need-blind policy no longer applies to the wait list? You sound like a reasonable person and I don’t doubt that this could happen at other institutions, perhaps those less financially secure. However, I also have a sense that there are some collegiate versions of urban myths flying around on this subject. And we also see from the present discussion how all too human it is to attribute a failure to get off the wait list to such a convenient reason.

It’s common that schools don’t address waitlist need blind vs. need aware on their websites…counselors know based on their conversations with AOs and/or counselor newsletters/list servs/programming. Obviously not all need blind schools meet full need either, so that is another consideration.

Here are two schools that are need blind for domestic students, but need aware on the waitlist that they directly state on their websites…that’s all the time I have to look. I am sure you can find others. Vandy has multiple AO blog posts over the years that state the same.

Lastly, note that I have said that I don’t know the policy at UChicago and asked if anyone here did…making assumptions about things not written can be misleading.

I don’t want to sound harsh but, in the end, whoever is on this thread was waitlisted for reasons beyond ourselves: subjective decision-making, COVID-19, etc. Arguing whether the waitlist is need-blind or need-aware at a school that we haven’t gotten into isn’t as productive as thinking about the school’s that we have gotten into and getting excited about them. I’m anxious too, but in the end, with those accepted, UChicago got who they wanted in the first place. Everyone on the waitlist are just as amazing (you are are so wonderful!) but not what they needed to round out their class this year. Whether they are now filling it due to their own financial needs, talent needs, athletics, etc. is up to them: it’s like, if you didn’t get your first pick, you’d try to get someone who is just as good and would maximize returns on your investment (whatever this may mean to the school).

My AO has been so nice during this time: I would never hold it against her or the school if I’m not taken off of the waitlist because I’m not obligated to a spot. The ball is in their court now to make the final decisions.

I don’t have schoolwork and we have a plan for next year. Are you so afraid of the truth so you are calling names?

No, but I am, indeed, afraid that you will never be able to prove your “truth” and that it will continue to eat at you. Love the one that loves you back. By the way, that wasn’t “name calling” - it was a reference to a well-known fable: Library of Congress Aesop Fables

True - but it’s speculative to think that UChicago looks at need vs full-pay in drawing from the w/l. And it contradicts what little definitive evidence there is. If an AO admitted such, that would be a different thing of course.

Edit to add: all internationals know that the university is need-aware.

@artivist247 , you sound like you’ve got the right stuff, whatever the outcome. Realism is a virtue wherever you wind up. Still, I wish for you a happy result on the Chicago waitlist. You just might get it based on the qualities you are showing in that post.

Hi - I just got an email from my admissions officer about a call tomorrow - any one know if this is a good sign? They can’t call me just to reject me:) or maybe just to really gauge my interest. I sent in a LOCI a couple of weeks ago

Let me guess, they will ask you if you want to take a gap year. If you say yes, you’ll be in for next year.

I am happy for you…but I am disappointed to not see one person thus far say they aren’t full pay

I know I have asked this a couple of times but I haven’t gotten a response yet. Does anyone know of anyone from the Texas (or any region near Texas) that has gotten in yet?

Please let us know if you got in for Class of 2025 or 26!

I had the same thing happen to me today as @mchammertime. The admissions person called me and offered me a spot for class of 2026. I hope that helps! Also she said that they are closing the class of 2025 waitlist.
