I have very poor grades my first year of high school..I was going through a lot of personal/ family things
freshman year avgs- 75, 80
soph year -- 90,85
junior year- 93, 102 (last report card)

I was diagnosed with arthritis junior year, i don't think that matters. Working in the pathology lab, changed my life and made me a dedicated student and passionate--plan to write about it for essay

I think all your stats qualify you as a great candidate  You just need to nail the essays. Make sure to put your heart and time into writing and crafting them. Be creative and let your personality shine through your words. As Mr. O’Neill, Dean of Admission, said in this year’s acceptance letter: “Our decision was not based on numbers but on your achievements and your words.” Good luck! You seem like a student who will do great no matter where you go :)

thank you! that was very kind of you

nada mas? 10 char

Your lower grades were freshman year, so you have an upward trend. Your profile is good, so with strong recommendations and a great essay you’ll be an attractive applicant.

bump bump bump

Your extended essay will be key. Also, when you get the question (hopefully the question I proposed will be used to torture you guys next year), do not simply answer the question. Question the question!

For example, one of this year’s topics is “At present you need to live the question.”

Well why does the speaker use the word “live” and not “ask”? Why not say “At present you need to ask the question?”

That one word makes that difference! I basically wrote my essay on that. My advice is to question the question. This is what IB has taught me. This was what Chicago’s “uncommon” essay allowed me to do. :D

Your stats are fine. You should know however, that Chicago does not give much financial aid to internationals. You should also know that your essay (especially the extended essay) weighs a lot in the admission process.

Good luck!

oh thank you! and also i’m not an international
