When does ED II Come out? And the possible results are Defer, Accept, Reject, Waitlist?
"I don’t know exact details of of Uchicago since EDII is fairly new without much supporting data.
But I have seen deferrals from ED1 to ED2
From what other schools do ( take it with a grain of salt )"
@Chunkycat I have probably the best supporting data available from UChicago at this point - a kid who went through the process two years ago when they fist introduced ED. The past two years of application cycles, applicants to UChicago had one shot at applying under a binding decision plan. It makes no sense to refer an ED1 to ED2 because they used their shot. EA’s who are deferred can get their one shot by switching their application to ED2 (that’s what my kid did and was accepted). ED1’s who are deferred go to the regular round. Would be very surprised to find that’s changed this year.
@Acortez122 EDII results come out in mid Feb. The results are Accept, Waitlist, or Deny.
@JBStillFlying @Leigh22 @fbsdreams … No false data here
All my data is from Uchicago
Deferred to admit was %0.5 >>>>>> that’s
ED1 deferred + EA deferred + ED2 Deferred = %0.5
The proof from U chicago it’s self

The regular decision admit rate was 4 percent, and the admit rate for students who were deferred in the early round was just 0.5 percent, he said.

@chunkycat the blanket statements and rationale you provided regarding ED/EDII/EA/RD is misleading and not based in facts. The comments you made specifically about student athletes is completely off base and incorrect as well.
One fact that is known from the two previous classes is that the deferred to admit rate is less than 1%. Your logic is flawed to say an EA deferral has the best odds to stay in the RD pool as opposed to EDII is incorrect and misleading with known data pointing to the contrary.
@chunkycat with your stats and assuming strong ECs; given your specific situation (QB, ED Penn) your absolutely better off to apply EDII if in fact UChicago is your #2.
Best of luck.
@ChunkyCat I’ve followed this thread for over a year. The eminence grise involved in it have both a wealth of institutional knowledge and an ability to number crunch with the best of them. (See, e.g., thread earlier in the year analyzing UChicago/Duke ED1/ED2 scenario. ) Also, they do not have a potental conflict of interest like you do.
So… contravening the wise counsel of this group by advising fellow applicants who (along with you) are vying for a limited number of spots not to express their ultimate “I want UChicago” message via ED2 is both ill-advised and, perhaps, a bad act on your part. ED1 and ED2 at UChicago have very similar acceptance rates (17%) despite the fact that many in the ED2 pool were deferred or rejected from another top school. Asserting that UChicago would not want these folks because they were rejected by some other school is absurd and sounds more akin to an analysis of high school dating.
First, if UChicago did not want them, then ED2 wouldn’t exist. There would only be ED and that would be the end of the story. This is what the Ivys do. It is not what UChicago does. UChicago and other non-Ivy T15 schools like Vandy and WashU want a second bite at the apple of yield protection.
Second, being rejected from a top school during ED1 does not make one “damaged goods.” We all know that top schools could fill their classes 20-50 times over with “perfect” applicants. They’re still perfect, but there simply isn’t enough room for all of them. Also, given the mosaic that each school puts together to make a class, there may be an over abundance of certain shapes and colors. Thus, this very excellent surplusage might be exactly what UChicago needs for its own mosaic. Indeed, that’s precisely why the ED2 pool at UChicago is even more competitive than ED1.
Good luck to you.
Stats for this year ed1 are not out yet.
I don’t have stats on my own or use any ones.
There is alot of garbage out there.
The problem is that uchicago does not release actual data… so limit your search to the chicago paper and admissions info.
I put the links for both in previous posts.
If anyone has data from uchicago/others directly post it please…
I am sure there is an exception to every rule, but the one rule for uchicago is
ED1 fills about over %50 say 1200 students
EA + ED2 + RD = %50 say 1200 students (includes all defferals)
The Ed2 issue at ANY school is tough.
My opinion is that ED2 is the strongest pool of candidates.
ED1 Is pretty strong with commitment.
ED2 will have EA deferrals from uchicago + all other candidated that want to commit to uchicago that were not accepted Ed1 at ivy (mostly outstanding candidates) + other candidates.
The whole ED2 thing is cherry picking.
Why is UChicago is asking for my financial info on my portal when I got rejected o
@ChunkyCat well finally you have something that rings true, ED2 is cherry picking, many of those applying ED2 (and are accepted) would have been accepted to one (or more) top schools in the RD round. Again, just another way Nondorf is using his experience and knowledge of admissions to top schools to get the best possible class for UChicago.
Hey anyone defferred know if I can edit supplement
Anon- you can upload additional information via your portal but won’t be allowed to revise the original application. Which of these did you mean?
Does anyone know when the FA packages will be released? I finished mine three days after I got my acceptance.
- It has to be before you are required to accept or reject the offer of admittance, so I imagine they are working the ED1 packages first. I would expect at least a week before the offer decision date for admits to mull over the offer.
- It usually takes 1-2 weeks after the decision dates for them to process the FA packages but they will show up in your portal as soon as the FA office figures them out. The holidays may also delay that timeframe
is the optional video also due on January 2nd???
Today, January 11th, 201, I was accepted into the University of Chicago. I applied Regular Decision in late November of 2018. As you can probably infer, this was a major surprise! Was anyone else accepted? Can anyone explain why a Regular Decision student might be accepted MONTHS before the RD Decision Release date in March?
In case you were wondering, I’ll post my stats below (from a template I copy-pasted from the ED thread).
ACCEPTED!

Congratulations on the achievement. Was it a likely letter or a formal acceptance ?
@fbsdreams It was a formal acceptance, I will copy it below!
Dear Asia,
Congratulations! While official decisions are several weeks away, we couldn’t wait to share the good news. The admissions committee has reviewed your application, and I am pleased to extend to you a provisional invitation to join the University of Chicago Class of 2023. As long as you continue your strong performance and there is not a negative change in your record, you can expect to receive an official offer of admission in late March. From a group of highly talented and diverse applicants, you have distinguished yourself as a top scholar; you are one of only a handful of students to receive this early offer.
At the University of Chicago, we seek students who are as passionate about ideas as we are. When we saw your scholastic and personal achievements, we knew immediately that you were our kind of student and that UChicago would be your kind of school. As a liberal arts college nestled within a premier research university, UChicago offers one of the finest and most unique undergraduate experiences available. Our students develop a common vocabulary and forge lifelong friendships in the small seminar classes that comprise our Core curriculum. They grapple with classic texts and debate current affairs at House dining tables, they conduct research alongside world-renowned scholars—including Pulitzer Prize Winners, Fields Medalists, and Nobel Laureates—and they engage in every facet of extracurricular life in over 400 student organizations. This is what we call “the life of the mind,” and we invite you to join us in it. Truly unparalleled opportunities await you here in the city of Chicago—one of America’s most vibrant metropolitan centers.
I encourage you to experience the University of Chicago firsthand by joining us on campus at one of our Admitted Student Open Houses. On April 11–12 or April 18–19, admitted students will gather on campus, and we hope you will be among them. Over the course of two days, you and your future classmates will visit classes and research facilities, explore our campus and historic Hyde Park neighborhood, and, if you wish, spend a night in one of our residential houses. If you’re unable to attend one of the open houses, we will gladly assist you in scheduling a campus visit at a more convenient time. To arrange your visit, please contact Ryne Cannon, Assistant Director of Admissions, at 773.834.0304 or rynemc@uchicago.edu. Even if you’ve already visited us, we hope you’ll join us again on campus.
We know you will have an exceptional college career, and we are eager to share in your development as a scholar and as a person. If, in the coming weeks, you have questions about your application or about programs at UChicago, please contact us.
Again, congratulations! You have much to be proud of, and my colleagues and I look forward to seeing you on campus.
Sincerely,
(Signatures I can’t copy paste)
