UChicago Class of 2023 Applicants

@JBStillFlying Still confused about the z list thing. S19 didn’t apply but still curious! Why would someone choose z list over waitlist? Wouldn’t everyone prefer waitlist? Or are you saying they save a number of spots for these kids in the 2024 class and, once they won’t take any more kids this year, they will give a call to however many kids they still want and offer them a definitely spot for 2024?

Well I’m a little late to post decisions but I was denied admission. :frowning:
Congrats to everyone who got in tho!

@homerdog hopefully someone can chime in either to correct or confirm, but the wording seems to be consistent with your second scenario by allowing at least some waitlisted also to indicate an interest in matriculating next year if they aren’t called off the waitlist for Class of ‘23. So you don’t choose one list or the other; rather, you choose yet another option - or chance is probably the better word- to enroll at UChicago (this time, as part of next year’s class). Most choosing the z option as well won’t be called off either list, of course. But in the past two years there have been a few each year.

Not sure how many accept a spot on the waitlist and, if offered, the z list. To me it’s keeping all options open but many probably just wish to be done and move on.

@DadofBoys, my S has similar stats–1590 SAT, NMF, 4.0uw GPA, 8 or 10 APs (all 5s)… and he was rejected.

As many have said, UChicago and other elite colleges can fill their classes many times over with students who have super-strong-stats–I get it. But I’ve also come to question the idea that super-high stats are as important as everyone on CC seems to think they are–at least compared to just-really-strong stats (say, 1450-1550 SAT) plus a hook, a legacy, a niche-filling skill, rich parents, a good story to tell, or maybe just a good measure of luck.

^ Or an ED application to signal unequivocally that you will attend if admitted.

I checked out the post and her letter was slightly different. Thanks for info and good luck to others. She has plenty of good options and wasn’t devastated by the news. We were just surprised at the decision.

waitlisted!

Waitlisted.

@TwoHearted I agree 100%. Our biggest question/concern going in is he is a suburban middle-class kid whose parents are married and both of us attended college. He has no hooks, no real significant challenges in his life to date. He is simply a really smart good kid who has had a pretty good life. We are hoping for better luck with the schools we are waiting on but he will be fine regardless.

Deferred Early Action and then ACCEPTED during the RD round. I was super surprised considering the low, reported acceptance rate for deferred students.

Thank you UChicago for this opportunity! :slight_smile:

rejected. ouch!

deferred EA and then rejected-- check my profile for my stats!
congrats to all who got in!

DS deferredEA and then rejected as well. Many Congrats to all the wonderful kids who were accepted.

@ohchad And best of luck to all the wonderful kids who weren’t! :slight_smile:

Have any of the other admitted students received an email today inviting you to the Destination UChicago program?

@carey46
My D was invited in early February but she was ED.

@PepperJo EDII right? They came out in Feb.

ED1 and EA came in December mid, and RD came in Mid March

Hi everyone, Please check this thread from last year (2022) NOT ONE PERSON got in off waitlist. So lets all move on to colleges that actually mean it when they waitlist…

@amtdad

THat is correct. For UChic and other top schools, the admit rate off the waitlist is 0% or very close to that if at all.

Do not bank off a WL for college. Choose the accepts ASAP unless you really really want to go to the WL’ed school. But expect to not go there, since they dont take anyone off, and the list results go on after 5/1 till like June/July.
