UChicago Class of 2023 Applicants

My D19 got deferred then rejected. 36/3.95&4.67/NMF.

Wow.

Hey everyone, does anyone have an estimate on how many people got waitlisted for 2023?

I know this is late but… I was accepted test optional with a 3.8 gpa. Was anyone else accepted test optional? I think my unusual extracurriculars and essays are what did it. I’m also a URM, so maybe that played a role.

@qwerty2000

URM plays a huge role.

@qwertyqwerty2000 congrats! Can you tell us a bit more about your EC’s or would that be TMI?

@TheGuy1 - um, how do you know that? And how do you explain the high achieving URM at my son’s school with the 35 ACT who didn’t get in? Clearly there is more to an application than race.

I’ve been playing roller derby since the age of 10. I’ve been the captain of my team for 4 years :))) I have a really uncommon background and I do cultural EC’s surrounding that. The cultural activities, roller derby, and my mock trial team were the EC’s I highlighted on my app.

@TheGuy1 haha I’ve been hearing this from all the super salty kids at my school who need to find some desperate justification as to why I got in over them. You know what played a huge role in my acceptance? The fact that I’m a great student who put together an outstanding application

^^^ You’ll go far. Roller Derby, that is pretty cool.

@JBStillFlying All I’m saying is that “URM plays a huge role.”

Definitely less of a role compared to fit, grades, scores, EC’s and such, but a huge role nonetheless. That is all.

congratulations to all those accepted!

what was the acceptance rate this year?

^ We won’t know that for at least a couple more weeks.

@JBStillFlying okok thank you!!

@xusins I was at an admitted students reception and Dean Nondorf announced it was 5.9%.

Whoa!

Update: this is overall or just RD?

@JBStillFlying That’s overall!

Nondorf’s done it. That’s Yale’s admit rate.

That’s got to be overalll.

Overall 5.9%. Confirmed by Dean Nondorf: https://www.chicagomaroon.com/article/2019/4/1/uchicago-acceptance-rate-drops-record-low/
