Middle Class
Common App Essay: Music Therapy program
Uncommon Essay: How apples and oranges are supposed to be compared, used that to talk about racial profiling in a more philosophical way and use elements from two neuroscientific research in the essay
Why UChicago: Talk about the research opportunities, the Core Curriculum and the UChicago Soul Umoja Gospel Choir that I want to join
Optional Video: talk about what makes me unique and my desire to join the Gospel Choir (I actually sang a song by Tasha Cobbs). If you want to see the video on Youtube, search my name (Tomisin Latona)
Supplemental Materials: Few Research Abstracts from The Penn Summer Science Initiative and one poem that I have submitted.
Recommendations: AP Calc Teacher and AP Bio Teacher from last year and my advisor from the Penn Summer Science Initiative
Question: The summer program was a material science program and I want to major in neuroscience. Even though I showed my interest in the music therapy program and essay, would it look good that I submitted work from mainly an engineering program than a neuroscience program?
does anyone know the release date ea
does anyone read the previous posts?
Mid December - actual date to be released from Admissions next week most likely.
@Youngmis123 - got a chance to look at your optional video last night. You are a charming and sincere young man and I wish you - and everyone hoping for a good decision this Dec. - the best of luck!
@Youngmis123
I watched it too.I liked the dancing
Good luck to you!
Could somebody please tell me, or direct me, to official (almost official?) the ED 1 ED2 EA admissions stats for 2018?
Thanks!
A friend of my S got a t-shirt in the mail.
Is it bad if we don’t get one? Worried now
@momo2x2018
It’s maddening that UChicago is so secretive. I attended a local information session several months ago, and the AO said 50% of class is filled by ED and EA. At the campus information session, just said acceptance rate is about 8-9%
Stats from two years ago (on their website) said 27,694 applicants, they accepted 2419, and 1740 enrolled. No breakdown by ED/EA/ED2/RD though.
@momo2x2018 - take a look at this thread:

I’m not sure if they publish specific numbers…
@caymusjordan @PepperJo Thank you both for the feedback!
@Leigh22 did the shirt come with anything? or did it just seem like something generic? just curious. thanks!
@iwslontsat don’t think so. numerous people I know who were accepted ED did not receive anything.
My S said it had something to do with self reporting her ACT score? I just clarified this with him. Makes no sense to me, but he said she got a letter and this was referenced. I will add that he also applied, but did not get a shirt. Also didn’t self report his scores.
I got a shirt at the end of the summer because I had my ACT scores sent to uchicago. I had sent in my scores officially before, but I only received a shirt on my official 30 report.
My daughter sent her ACT score to UChicago as one of the free score reports they give you when you sign up for the test. They sent her a shirt before she even applied.
I read an artical about a high school teacher recieving one because his recommendation letter played an essential roal to his student’s admission
All, as you get into your final week, here is some advice from me when my son went through this process last year.
1> Do not try to read signals that someone may be accepted because of something the school has done. (short of a likely letter, which my experience has been at UChicago is only really a Athlete thing or very special case).
2> When the date gets closer, some may see something appear on the portal that they interpret as a signal of good or bad news. That will not be the case. Wait until the pre-posted time and date. Don’t jump to conclusions and post your signal on here. All that it will do is cause others to worry that they don’t see that or visa versa.
3> There is absolutely nothing you can do for yourself and you are better served thinking about something else. I know it is hard, but you need to get your mind off the application cycle if you are an ED1 or EA applicant. If you want to work on back up essays for back up schools that’s fine. The UChicago Admissions office are really good at what they do and they don’t send bling to teachers of students that may be signal that the student is getting good news. They may send bling, that student may get accepted, but it is not intended as a signal.
I’d suggest not opening up the UChicago CC board until then for fear that some false signal will add to your stress level.
