my son is a freshman at UChicago. I wrote the director of finacial aid a letter stating that the value of our house had changed since an appraisal two years ago. I was using inflated numbers. Ia sked for a reconsideration and a few weeks later, we received several thousand dollars more of aid. So make sure all the data you provided on the finacial aid forms is accurate and up to date. I know they have a reputation of being stubborn but it worked for us. Contacting the coach is also good advice. You should try to visit Williams, however. they are very different places. My son is half white/half Indian and one thing that lead to his selection of UChicago was how comfortable he felt when he visited - he wanted diversity since he grew up in an all white town in Connecticut. Good Luck

Thanks for the great posts.

One thing that sucks is that schools put Arabs under White so there are no minority breakdowns for Arabs. But I am not too worried about that, it would just be an added benefit to have a decent number of Arabs at the school I decide to attend.

I like the idea of an athletic campus. I have spent the past 4 years doing 3 varsity sports so I am use to having athletics as the main thing in my life. But I don't want to sacrifice my academic pursuits for sports.

Thanks for the great info Cue7 and drdom. I will def try that once the official Williams packet comes out for me.

I have no idea about any specific stats re: racial diversity and Williams, but I do remember the student being primarily white. Also, this is just anecdotal and may not be representative of the student body as a whole, but when I picked up a student newspaper the main article was about this girl who was being harassed (I think because she was African American? Though I may be wrong) and how Williams, despite initial support, failed to really address the issue.
