Hi Grace,

Thanks for replying. How and when do I express interest in having an alumni interview? Is it before or after I submit my application?

Also, does UChicago have an approximate quota for students from the same school? We have a pretty strong class this year so a lot of us are applying (or have applied) to top colleges like UChicago.

Thanks!

shootastar, once you have submitted either your Common Application or Supplement to UChicago, we will send you an e-mail prompting you to register your Chicago Account. You will be able to express interest in an interview in this account. We do not have quotas for our applicants, whether by region, interest, or school.

Hi Grace,
Are on-campus interviews “worth,” so to speak, as much as alumni interviews? Am I at a disadvantage because I had an on-campus interview before I applied?

Thanks so much.

what is the early action admission rate?

there is nowhere written about it :)

It was 20% last year. Since the applications went up up 25% and the number of early admits stay the same, I am guessing 16-17%

i am applying next year so im interested: is there a chance that FA policies for international students;admission criteriums ( for example: sat scores are ONLY considered and writing section is not considered) CHANGE THE NEXT YEAR?

IM VERY THANKFUL BECAUSE OF YOU!SO FRIENDLY ANSWERS!THANKS!!

Hi Grace - How do the students hear back about EA decisions? Is there a date set for announcements?

Doctoribach, we expect that our financial aid program for international students will be the same this year and next year.

Texaspg, we do not have a date set for announcements yet. All students will be sent an e-mail inviting them to check their decision in their UChicago Account; students who are admitted will also receive a paper acceptance letter and further materials in the mail.

Grace,

Last year, University of Chicago accepted three applicants from my high school in Northern Virginia, but none accepted. Will this hurt my chances for RD admission?

Hi Grace!

Is it necessary to be personal for your creative essay? I was wondering this because I feel like I’ve read a few U. Chicago essays where the writers do not necessarily relate to an aspect of themselves. As for myself, I haven’t exactly related my creative essay to myself either.

Hey Grace! First off, thanks so much for taking the time to answer all of our questions - it’s much appreciated.

My query is this - although I submitted the CSS profile for EA, I never realized I had to turn in a tax return form for 2010 until just now. How much will this affect my financial aid decision? Is it too late to send it in?

Hi again!
I was wondering, is there a time of day when the results are usually released? Or is it just arbitrary depending on when everything is confirmed?
I realize this is a really little thing, but I’ve been thinking about what would happen if they were released during the day while I was in class and what I would do… It’s possible that my anxiety is taking over my brain…

Hi Grace! I applied to UChicago as a QuestBridge finalist. I recently found out that I was not matched to any of my schools, but I forwarded my application for EA admission. I was wondering if there is any way to find out my chances of getting in (since the admissions staff has already reviewed my application). A lot of things depend on my admission to UChicago. Also, will QB applicants be finding out on the same day as other EA applicants?

Thank you!!

lalala189, yes, we consider on and off campus interviews to be equivalent, and we do not require any student to have an interview.

muckdogs, no, this circumstance is not part of you as an applicant and would not affect your admissions decision in any way.

grassygreen, nope-- not necessary. Really, you should feel free to engage the prompt in whatever way you like; if you’d like to make it more personal you can, but a more creative and less personal approach is fine too!

Ezsebel, this will not affect the amount of your aid decision, as we guarantee to meet 100% of need for all admitted students, but may affect the timing of this decision. If you are admitted, you may not receive your aid decision at the same time as your acceptance letter. Please do go ahead and send it in as soon as you can.

amelia9009, we do not have a particular date set yet but we have traditionally released decisions after school hours in the afternoon-- we want to make sure you don’t all drive your teachers crazy with e-mail checking and such!

grimalkin, I cannot speak to your chances, but we do certainly admit some students from Questbridge who did not match with us during Early Action.

Hi Grace! I was just wondering how much pull athletic coaches have in the admissions process

Hi Grace, thank you for answering my previous question. I have another one - if my financial situation has improved since 2010, would that change my admission chances at all? I know UChicago is need-blind but being a QuestBridge applicant, it is kind of obvious that I will need financial aid. If my current year income is higher than the previous year, would that affect the decision at all?

Thank you again.

arrness, while coaches may provide input about a particular student, admissions officers/ admissions committees make final decisions on all applicants.

grimalkin, we are truly need blind for domestic students, so this will not matter-- if anything, we will continue to be impressed by your selection as a Questbridge finalist even if not matched, as the program is quite selective. Your new level of income may affect your financial aid package, but will not affect your admissions decision.

Hi Grace,

How important are leadership positions in extracurriculars as a factor for UChicago in considering its applicants? What if an applicant has great grades and scores, genuine and well-written essays, and decent involvement in extracurriculars, but due to being new to her current high school, does not hold/has not held any leadership positions (president, captain, chairperson, editor-in-chief, etc.)?

Thanks a lot!

shootastar, we are happy to see you involved in activities you enjoy, regardless of whether or not that happens in a leadership position.
