Thanks for letting us know UCHICAGO Rep… i should probably stop counting down til the fifteenth since its not the official date… OPPS…

Hi again,

I was checking my account and noticed some items that I did not send in. Under “Upload[ed] Materials,” there are three “Other” documents. One was a resume, which I did send in early November, but I did not send the other two, which were received on 11.17 and 12.06, so I have no idea what these two other documents are. I also noticed that my account listed one of my former addresses, which I did not supply (I deleted it because I no longer live there). Where is this information coming from, what are the two “Other” documents, and should I be concerned?

Thank you so much!

littlepenguin, no need to worry-- the other address was likely listed on testing you sent us at some point or from a previous iteration of your account (perhaps from an old address where we used to send you material in the mail), and the “other” documents happen frequently-- usually a cover page we use while scanning or the cover page of a fax/enclosure from one of your mail packets that our processing group scans accidentally.

Hey Grace,
So I was checking through my application for about the thousandth time when I saw that under my “Received Materials” list, there are four teacher recommendations. I think it’s because they weren’t originally received, so I sent in an extra copy of each. Will that be confusing for admissions if there’s two copies of each form?

Quizbowl, no. We recognize that they are just copies of the ones we’ve read before and just simply skip reading them again.

Hi Grace,

Sorry for being nosey, but have all the decisions been made (and all that’s left is paperwork), or are some decisions still being made?

Hi again,

How much, if any, advantage do EA applicants have over RD ones? Is the rise in the number of EA applications going to affect the chances of RD applicants?

Thanks!

simpleton, we are still very involved in decision making (the fun part!) as well as the boring side of checking through everything, getting paper and accounts ready, etc.

shootastar, there is no particular advantage; the same admissions standards and process apply for both EA and RD students. I’d say the only advantage is that to the student–with an EA acceptance, you may not find a need to continue applying to other colleges, and have an advantage in the housing pool, as students are placed in to housing in the order that they accept their offer of admission and pay their enrollment deposit.

I was wondering, when do we receive information for how much need based aid we will receive from UChicago? I am a Questbridge finalist, so I already submitted my CSS Profile to the admissions office.

input1010, students who applied for financial aid by the financial aid deadline will receive their aid estimates with their offer of admission. Students who applied for aid after the deadline and are admitted will still receive a package that covers 100% of their need, but will receive their aid decision after they receive their offer of admission.

Out of curiosity, can you give us any insight on how you review our applications? (Just to tide me over til decision day!) For instance, does one person read it then several? Other way around? How is a final decision made? (Of course, if this is information that cannot be shared, you don’t have to answer my question!)

Hi, Just came across this thread. What percent of your premed students get into the med program at UChicago?

Hi Grace, how are you doing?

I was wondering does UChicago send out likely letters during the regular decision round? I mean academic likely letters, not just for athletes. If so, is there a specific timetable for when those should be released?

Hi Grace,

I’m an international student applying for financial aid. On my UChicago account, it says that you received the “Parent’s 2010 Federal Income Tax Return”, but not the “Profile.” I read the instructions for international financial aid and it says I don’t require the CSS Profile. Should I just ignore the “Waiting” next to “Profile”?

Hi Grace,
Since UChicago is still in the process of decision making, may I still send in extra information of my activity since I applied in October for consideration. It will only be a quick update. I am really excited about the possibility of getting into UChicago. Your admission department has been the most active and helpful I have contacted. Thank you.
ZhiZhong (John) Dong

Hi Grace, how are you doing?

Im applying EA to Uchicago. I really want to be part of the university. After seeing my recent marks I believe that they are a better representation of my academic ability and show constant improvement. How could I let my counselor submit my marks?

Thanks for your help.

poor grace.

Haha, yes poor Grace.

I don’t think Grace works weekends, so she’ll have to answer many questions during regular business hours.

Hi Grace! I applied EA and I’m wondering about the role of my arts supplement. How much will it help me in the admissions process to have submitted a very strong visual arts portfolio? Do you guys just treat arts supplements as a way to learn more about an applicant’s interests/activities, or does a high level of artistic talent actually help my chance of getting in?
Thanks!

Grace wishes she didn’t work weekends, but alas, your questions… Here goes:

fallpsat: everything you’ll want to know about our pre-med program can be found here: [Chicago Careers: CCIHP](<a href=“Home | CareerAdv”>Home | CareerAdv)

StanfordCS: we have in the past, and it is likely that we will do so this year. There is no particular timeline for them, and the vast majority of our eventually-admitted students will not receive one.

luciDream: yes, since you are an international student, you may ignore the section that says “Profile”.

dongzzhong, if the update is very important, you may e-mail it to your regional admissions counselor.

olala88, you may have your college counselor e-mail your recent grades to your regional admissions counselor.

ogdjsmm, great question! We are looking for students with a wide variety of talents, and while a strong arts portfolio can be helpful in our decision-making, but is certainly not the only factor. We love seeing students work in the arts or in music; it helps us put a talent, skill, or interest in to context. The majority of our admitted students do not submit an arts portfolio, and they are by no means required for admission to UChicago, but a portfolio can be a great way for us to see the result of, say, an extracurricular activity you have put a lot of time in to in the arts.
