Hi Grace
I’m just wondering on UChicago’s site, it is stated that “We do not require any SAT Subject Tests.”

I’m currently a senior and have not taken any subject test yet. Will it hurt my chances of applying as RD? Most ppl I know apply to UChicago has taken at least 2 SAT II.

Blackbunny, we do not require subject tests at all-- your application to UChicago will not be at a disadvantage for not having taken SAT-II subject tests.

Hi Grace,
will U Chicago announce a decision release date or will it just post the decision on the uchicago account we have? And has the decision date been made?
Thanks so much!

noirblanc, if advanced warning of our decision release date and time can be given, we will make sure to announce it on our website, which I will also place on this page and our Facebook and Tumblr pages. We do not yet have a firm date set for decision release, but expect to release decisions before December 24th.

Hi Grace.

I am applying to UChicago for ea via Questbridge. My first semester senior grades are a little bit lower right now due to the fact that I’ve been in a hospital for much of the school year because Ive been dying of heart disease. Im fine now and have recovered. I’ve been fighting to get it back up, and it is feasible. Would this be too much of an issue for our midyear report?
Thank you

Hi butters1, you should feel free to include a note with your midyear report explaining the health circumstances that contributed to your grade decline. We hope you feel better soon!

Grace - I keep hearing there is a note on Chicago website about 19th being d day but I could not find it. Is that the date?

Yes. We have announced this in a blog post, which I linked to in a separate post on CC. We will release EA decisions on Monday, December 19th in the afternoon.

Hi Grace,

Also what would happen if I transfer schools soon. Would the midyear report change?
Thanks

Hi Grace,
Does students who have to withdraw their applications due to being accepted by other Early Decision colleges open up slots for prospective students like myself who does not have a permanent early decision to go to another school? Thanks.

Hi Grace,

I go to a very competitive high school and we have at least 7-8 students applying EA to UChicago. I was wondering if in the application process, do you measure us against each other, or are we looked at completely individually? Also, since I’m a QuestBridge applicant, does that mean I’m in a different pool from the applicants from my school?

Hi Grace,

I am currently a finalist, but I was not matched to UChicago. On the Questbridge website, they say that many of the non-match recipients receive excellent financial aid packages, sometimes even the same value as a match scholarship.

My question regarding this was, if I applied to UChicago (who meets 100% demonstrated need already), does being a finalist through Questbridge ensure you any extra aid other than the demonstrated need aid that UChicago would offer? Or do I only receive aid based on the difference between tuition and my family EFC?

Hi Grace,

A while back I had logged into my account to check for additional info and I saw that my Parent’s 2010 Federal Income Tax Return was not signed. Because I didn’t really know when decisions were going to come out, I scanned and uploaded a signed copy into the Upload Materials section on my account. Is this okay? Would it be too late to mail in a copy of the signed document?

Thank you!

Dear Grace,

I logged into my UChicago portal today to check my application status. Under Upload Documents, it says: “We have received the following documents from you” and goes on to list “Supp Rec” and “Other” that were received TODAY. What does this mean? I did not upload any materials.

Thanks!

Butters1, you would need to send a midyear report from your previous school, as if you transfer schools now you will not have any grades to show at your new school.

Dongzzhong, while it doesn’t quite work that way, you give me the opportunity to make an important point: anyone who has been accepted to an ED school should e-mail us at collegeadmissions@uchicago.edu with your name, common app ID, and a statement to withdraw your application!

grimalkin, we evaluate each applicant holistically and as an individual. Questbridge applicants are evaluated in the same fashion as applicants from outside of the Questbridge program, although we often receive extra information from QB applicants about tough family situations or home life that we will certainly consider and use to help put grades and other opportunities in context for the individual student.

input1010, yes, this is correct. While it is possible that, if admitted to UChicago, you will receive an aid package that is the same as the match scholarship, we do not guarantee it; unmatched Questbridge admits will have 100% of their need met by our financial aid program, but unlike a matched QB applicant, this package may include some (likely small, but still present) family contribution–the same aid package the student would receive if they had not participated in Questbridge at all.

shweeet11, you should contact the financial aid office at college-aid@uchicago.edu to resolve this and to make sure they have received this document.

loldaniel, we have been going through and checking through many students’ files to ensure completeness; it is likely that these documents were misclassified originally in your file and someone reclassified them today. No need to worry.

Hi Grace,

Just wanted to tell you you’re awesome. Thanks for helping us!

Thanks much!

Yeah, why isn’t everyone as nice as you guys? It makes UChicago look good. I’m stoked.

Hi Grace :)

I recently got a job and made significant accomplishments in a couple of my clubs. I applied EA and wanted to know if it’s too late to submit additional information. Thanks!
