Hi Grace! I heard there will be a firework animation for admitted students. I was wondering if we are encouraged to view our decisions on devices that support Adobe Flash because of a possibility of viewing the firework animation. I was originally going to check my decision on my iPhone since I will be away later today, but the iPhone only supports HTML5.

@KE9016, it works on MobileSafari (just tested it on my iPad, iOS 5.1). I’m an EA admit.

KE9016, if some type of animation were to occur for an admitted student, it would be in Javascript-- so, both mobile and other browser-friendly :)

It might be a tad late, but I was wondering if final financial aid packages will also be released today? I thought they would be, and I believe I’ve said so on here, but I just want to make sure! Thanks!

Decisions are posted!

I’m waitlisted, and if I get accepted later, will I hear back before May 1st?

Do we get an email or just look at our UChicago account? I’m too scared.

It’s on the UChicago acct RIGHT AT THIS MOMENT.
Good luck!
I’m to scared to check too lol.

Alright here we go…

Nice job crashing the website guys haha still haven’t seen my decision

Hi, again!

I was waitlisted, but I was surprised, and very grateful, that the admissions committee gave me another chance, so thank you! :)

However, I’m a bit confused as to how I should proceed to contact admissions because this [blog post](Page Redirection) and the letter on my UChicago account are giving me different advice:

Blog post: “You do not need to send us an updated resume, extra recommendation letters, or other materials. If you feel especially certain that UChicago remains your first choice for college, we encourage you to send a brief email (in this case, e-mail is preferred; you do not need to send a letter through the post) to your Admissions Counselor to that effect.”

Letter: “Should space become available later in the spring, we will revisit the files of students who have accepted a place on the waiting list. If you would like to provide any additional information to the committee, you may update your file in your UChicago Account or by fax at 773.702.8599. Thank you again for your patience and continued interest in UChicago. If you have any questions about your status, please contact Audrey Habermann by e-mail at audrey1@uchicago.edu.”

I’m planning to email my admissions counselor about my continued interest in UChicago in early-April, but I’m not sure what I should do with any updates I have. Should I upload them onto my UChicago account, not upload them, or do something else? Also, when is the suggested deadline for submitting updated information?

Thank you! :)

Grace, thanks so much for answering our questions! I’m making a UChicago face right now!!!

@mango15 I don’t know whether the admissions site was down temporarily right after the decisions were released, but I do know UChicago keeps a team on standby to make sure everything is running properly–on today of all days. (I mention this because Northwestern is apparently having a real mess right now with their admissions website having crashed and most people can’t check their decisions although they have been released.) It reminded me of this article I read about what UChicago does proactively to avoid disaster:

Hi, Grace! I was planning to tour UChicago over my April break, but I realized that the 12th and the 13th are admitted students days…do you think there’s anything to be gained from visiting then (I realize I won’t be able to sit in on classes and everything will be really crowded), or should my family try to rearrange our travel plans in order to have a more productive visit?

Thanks!

What comes with the snail-mail acceptance letter? Anything cute? hmm? hmm?

For waitlisted students: please see this updated blog posting with information about this year’s waitlist procedures. https://blogs.uchicago.edu/collegeadmissions/2012/03/decisions_now_available_in_you.html

Very important: waitlisted students should not expect to hear back from us before May 1. All waitlisted students should accept a place at another college to which you have been accepted by May 1, so that you are guaranteed a spot at a different school if we are not able to accept you off of the waitlist.

I have also started a thread for waitlisted students. Please ask your questions on that thread if you have any questions that are not cleared up by this blog posting (which, to be fair, I also wrote-- and tried to be exhaustive in the information it contains. Please read it!)

tarmiriel-- great question. While juniors, sophomores, etc. are welcome to visit on Admitted Student Days as a regular visitor-- we do have tour guides and staff not working the program in our office on those days-- I’d agree that coming on a different day will likely give you a greater ability to sit in on classes. If it is problematic to rearrange travel plans, I wouldn’t worry about visiting on those days-- but if you would prefer to see campus in a more ‘natural’ state without the addition of 800 buzzing, excited potential first years, I might suggest a different day :)

Thank you Grace!

I’m not sure if you answered this already, buuuuuut…

If I updated my FAFSA with my parents’ 2011 tax return information, should I still send in the 2011 tax returns themselves? (I am an EA admit). All new sent information takes a little bit to get processed, right…?

Grace,

I was recently admitted and I am waiting for my financial aid results. My parents are divorced, so I submitted the non custodial profile. I am wondering how the college takes into account the income of the non custodial father, even if he indicated that he isn’t planning to contribute to the COA. Also, does the finaid office take into account the income of the non-custodial father’s wife (stepmom)?

mam and mathmuser-- financial aid is handled separately from admissions in our office, so I am not the best person to ask these questions-- you should email them to college-aid@uchicago.edu or call the aid office at 773-702-8666 during their business hours (8:30am-4:30pm CST).
