Thanks for the quick answer!

StephenA, yes, you may feel free to note that.

Grace, I had sent few updates to international admission office and financial aid office few weeks ago. However, I did not receive any reply from both offices. Does that mean I am rejected and these offices are no more interested in my updates?

imtitanium, no it does not. We receive hundreds of e-mails in our accounts every day, and, although we try to do so, we are sometimes unable to personally respond to every e-mail we receive. Rest assured that any materials you sent were uploaded in to your account even if you did not receive a response.

I read that an interview at Chicago is more about me finding out about them then vice versa so I did not interview. Did I diminish my chances for getting admitted?

Hi Grace! I’m an international and I was admitted EA. Will I be getting the final Financial Aid offer before Friday, too? Thank you!

Grace,

I just saw a news story about a “St. Patrick’s day shooting” on the south side of Chicago. They said 49 people were shot - 10 fatally. How close to the university was this? what kind of safety training do students receive? Thanks.

Hi Grace!

I know that the admissions process is need blind, so I was wondering if you take into account financial situation for applicants who are economically disadvantaged?

sanskrit, no; interviews are not a required portion of the admissions process. Not having an interview does not diminish your chances of being admitted.

longcat, you should follow up with our international team at internationaladmissions@uchicago.edu with this question.

matonh, over St. Patrick’s Day Chicago experienced (and is continuing to experience) unseasonably warm weather. Unfortunately, there tends to be a slight correlation with our first warm-weather weekend and violence in the Chicago area. The activity that occurred was scattered throughout Chicago, mostly in lower South and West Side neighborhoods-- none of the activity occurred on campus or in the Hyde Park/Kenwood neighborhoods. We have strong commitment to keeping the Hyde Park/Kenwood area safe for students and neighborhood residents, and it is consistently ranked among the safest neighborhoods in Chicago. You can learn more about our safety programs here: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/studentlife/chicago/resources.shtml

tommyamz, we are need-blind, and do not take a student’s ability to pay in to consideration when making final admissions decisions. However, we are, of course, sensitive to students who come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, even if we are not looking at a student’s financial information as part of their admissions materials; we understand that not every student will be able to participate in the same sorts of activities, and that students may need to devote time outside of school to work or family care. These considerations are part of a holistic admissions process; we are not looking for any typical student, rather, are looking to find high-achieving students from a broad variety of backgrounds.

Is UChicago need blind for internationals? I heard that it isn’t.

Framed, we are need-aware for international students, although we do offer an aid package that meets 100% of need for accepted international students who require aid. You can learn more here: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/international.shtml

I thought EA admits were supposed to hear about financial aid before Friday. I did not hear anything yet. Did anyone else hear yet?

I think they said Friday WITH the RDs…

If I may follow up on tommyamz’s question: how would you know if an applicant is economically disadvantaged when you don’t see their financials?

When is UChicago sending the email letting us know when decisions are available to view? It is less than 24 hours now but we still have not received an email notification. All we heard about tomorrow’s decision date is from Grace here in CC.

@YSLYDZ, I think we get the email notification when our decisions are available. So, if they’re available at 4:30 EST, you’ll get an email around 4:30. That’s how it was for EA, anyway.

I got accepted EA, and I just realized today that I made a mistake on my application, and wrote national honor society instead of my school honor society. That’s not a big problem, is it? Should I email the admissions office to get it changed?

@RBR There was a financial aid application you were supposed to turn in including fafsa (if you live in the us), css profile, and tax returns.

Hi Grace.
I know that a week ago you said that you would not know the time RDs would be released, but have you been told a definitive time yet? I know that YSLYDZ also asked and I know that a lot of other readers want to know the same thing.

We do not know the exact time that decisions will be released yet. It will be after school hours in the afternoon, and we will send an e-mail when decisions are ready to be viewed online. I expect that they will be available before 5pm CST. I will post on CC, on Tumblr, and on our blog when they are available as well. Thanks for your patience.
