Hi Dad2013, we do offer merit scholarships to non-Illinois residents; we do have some specific scholarships for students in Chicago, but there are opportunities outside of those. The scholarships can range widely in value and there is no separate application necessary to receive them; you can learn more about general scholarship opportunities here: https://collegeadmissions.uchicago.edu/costs/merit.shtml

theoneguy, we are not able to waive our application fee for all applicants or to refund the fee for students who are not admitted. However, we do waive our application fee for all students attending high school in the city of Chicago, and are also happy to waive the fee for any other students for whom it presents a hardship. You are always welcome to be in touch with your regional admissions counselor to request a fee waiver if the fee would be a burden on you or your family.

My D got two of SAT2 subjects. Both of them are higher than 760. Although UChicago doesn’t require SAT2, is it helpful in admission and merit-scholarship if SAT2 scores are sent ?

If I have a 4.8 weight GPA, more than 100 service hours by junior year, couple activities and sports, 34-36 on ACT, recommendation letters, and a good application essay, what will be my chance of getting admission here. I am currently a Sophomore.

Hello

I dropped out of my AP Stats class but could not get into regular stats because of the limited amounts of space. Thus, my only option was to have no class. Would taking only 3 years of math have a big impact on my application? I have already finished AP Calculus BC by the end of my junior year. Can I take AP Stats online? How are online classes usually looked at and do I have to explain my reason for taking it online as opposed to taking it at school?

@UChicago: if I do Early Action to your school, can I still do ED to others? For example, U Penn’s ED policy allows students apply to other EA schools, provided those EA schools allow so. Is U Chicago one of those EA schools? I know Georgtown is not.
thanks a lot;

We are amazed at the amount of mail U Chicago sends - way more than any other school. What are the criterion for this mass mailing - purchased list from College Board based on sat scores???

Dad2013, we do not require SAT-2 subject tests. If your daughter has taken these tests and feels that the scores are an accurate reflection of her ability, she may self report them, but they are usually not a factor in our decision making.

Hi Hydrolysis, I am not able to estimate any student’s likelihood of admission-- sorry!

kwkingdom, we understand that students often have scheduling conflicts that can cause a need to take courses online in some cases; it is fine if you do this, and you may want to have your counselor explain the reasoning for doing so in your recommendation letter (briefly). We hope to see students taking a full 4 years of math, but understand that not every school is able to offer this to students who complete calculus in their junior year, so please just work with your counselor to determine what might be the best option for you!

mom8dad, yes, we do allow students to apply ED to a different school while applying EA to UChicago. We do expect students to be respectful of the ED agreement, which states that if a student is admitted to their ED school, they will withdraw applications to all other schools-- even if they have not heard their admissions decision from us yet.

How lengthy should the supplements be? I believe I read that the first two (non - essay) supplements should be a page or less, and the essay 1-2 pages, is that double or single spaced?

Apeltz, you are correct on the length of our essays. The shorter responses should be less than a page and the supplement essay should be one to two pages, either single or double spaced is fine. I would say that two pages single spaced is allowable but on the longer side, so I would not exceed that length.

Hi

For an international applicant applying for financial aid at UChicago, would applying via Early Action give him or her any advantage in the need-sensitive admission process, as compared to someone who applies via Regular Decision?

Is financial aid for international applicant awarded on a rolling, first-come-first-serve basis?

Thank you.

Hi sir ,
I will be applying in fall 2014 , Can you tell me how much money can you give it to an interantional student? Full ride??

Is it very hard for an international applicant to be get selected?

Thank you.

Sorry, this might have already been asked but I really don’t feel like searching through 117 pages right now.

Does UChicago express any preference for SAT vs. ACT scores?

On the common app, where you have to pick your top three intended majors and top three cocurricular programs, are those supposed to correspond? I.e. is my top cocurricular program supposed to go with my top major, or are they a completely separate set of questions?

Hello, how does Uchicago handle the GPAs of their applicants? Does it reweight them, and if so, how?

Hi, I was wondering if quarter grades are a required part of the application for EA applicants? Also, if I took the most recent October SAT and have to wait until October 24th to send the score report, will it arrive on time and be considered or do I have to rush deliver it? Thank you.

I’m confused. I just saw that the essay lengths have changed and that the Why Chicago essay is to be only 250 words. I wrote a great essay of 500 words and I’d hate to cut it down. What should I do?

The early action deadline has been extended for students experience technological difficulties. Does this mean that everyone’s due date is now November 8, or just people that are having difficulties with CommonApp?

Hi, I’m applying EA to UChicago, and I submitted both my application and test scores in three weeks ago. I have yet to recieve my UChicago ID, and I am worried that something has gone wrong with my application given all the other technical glitches the Common App seems to be having. Is anyone else having a similar problem, and is it something I should be contacting the office of admissions about?

^ I emailed them about that and they said that they are having technical difficulties so no one has yet to receive confirmation. It seems there is difficulty with the commonapp website itself because every school seems to be extending its deadline.

@Chuckiecharlie, I was watching the ViewChicago that aired this week and it said no longer than a page for WhyChicago and no longer than half page for the favorites essay.
