UChicago v. Brown

Hi everyone! I was accepted EA at UChicago, and RD at Brown. I am thinking of a math or econ major, and I am on the fence about which to choose. Any opinions? I am visiting both accepted students days next week. Thanks!

Do you prefer a Core curriculum or an open one?

I like certain aspects of both. I think that a lack of a core would allow for more academic exploration, but the core will force me to take classes that I might not take otherwise.

Hey, UofC is famous for econ  But I think you’ll be clear after visiting both. Best of luck.

You can’t go wrong with either, both are really different though, UChicago is more academic focused while, while Brown is really liberal and laid back. You have two great choices and I think a visit to both would probably really help you make your final decision.

Everything you’ve said is true–yes, there are benefits to both; that’s why they both exist–but you need to consider which is better for you. You could debate the values of Harvard and Dartmouth by extolling the virtues of both an urban location and a rural one–and that would all be true–but that doesn’t make them both right for you.

So I went to the UChicago accepted student’s day and it was going well, until I got to the dorm and met the current students that weren’t employed by the admissions office, and ended up leaving early. But, I absolutely LOVED Brown so I will be a member of the Brown University Class of 2015!!!

I dare ask, which dorm did you end up staying in?

I stayed in South Campus East. The kids just didn’t mesh with my personality, the prospies or the current students.

Daudette. If you have a personality that meshes with the typical Brown student it is most unsurprising that it failed to mesh with the typical Chicago student. The intersection of the two types of student is as slender as that of Santa Barbara’s with Cal Tech’s.
Brown will demand of you no more than what you demand of yourself. Very good luck.

As good as it is to visit, you don’t get a complete picture. When my daughter overnighted at Chicago some years ago, she stayed in 2 different places. She had applied EA. The first night was awful, and she spent a lot of the time trying to figure out where she’d like to go instead. The second night, in the different dorm, she decided to cancel her other applications.

Seashore, what were those two dorms?

Uh, As, what is wrong with you? your response to everything is X> chicago? lmao are you just a big partier who is disappointed that no one else gives a **** about it? or are you just not able to handle the courseload at uc?

^^^ poster #13 on the waitlist maybe? trying to make room for yourself?
