UChicago's rise

Give your daughter some credit, won’t you? High school juniors and seniors are not naive enough to think receiving a brochure = “they really want me!”

Have you ever thought that maybe your daughter wants to attend UChicago? Maybe the fact that she received the mailing opened her up to the idea of attending a school that, as you yourself said, “was not even on the map” before, but is actually appealing to her after finding out about it?

Invasion - I do give my D a lot of credit. She was focused on DC and Boston. But like I said, the mailings caught her attention and now that she has looked into UChicago, it is on her top 10 list of schools she wants to apply to. In fact, it is probably in her top 5. She plans to major in Poli Sci with the goal of going to law school. I know UChicago is very highly rated in this area and it would open the door for her at a lot of law schools. If she gets in and that’s where she wants to go, I will support her decision.

Ha ha! Bumping this thread because it’s funny to look back almost a year later and see how far we’ve come. As of yesterday afternoon, my DD is now officially a member of the University of Chicago Class of 2018. I thought they were just teasing her with mailings to increase their applications and ranking. Turns out I was wrong and DD was right all along. UChicago really did want her. She applied and was accepted EA in December. We visited campus in January and both fell in love, despite the snow, ice, and 18 degree temp. She had to wait for Ivy rejections yesterday before fully committing her heart and soul to UChicago. With that distraction now behind her, she is eager to start the next chapter of her life in Chicago this fall. I could not be more happy or proud.

Very nice DGDzDad! Out of curiosity, which Ivies did she apply to this cycle?

^ Harvard and Yale. Those were the only schools she would have considered attending instead of UChicago. After she got her EA acceptance in December, she stopped working on her Brown, Princeton, and UPenn apps.

I mean, to be fair, just because they were sending her an endless supply of mail, that doesn’t necessarily mean she was wanted there. I’m super happy she got in and she’ll probably contribute to the school but I knew people dumb as posts who were being inundated with mail from UChicago. She’ll have fun here though.

“Dumb as posts” is really quite harsh…

Uh, obviously. It was kind of tongue in cheek.
