UChicago's Yield Rate

If I'm not terribly mistaken, this year's acceptance rate has been really low compared to the past. Do you think Chicago's yield rate, which also has been really low, will go up significantly this year? And any ideas why it's so low compared to other colleges of its status?

I bet Chicago strongly considered the number of EA admits who had already committed to matriculating there in deciding how many RD applicants to admit. They’re probably pretty experienced with this. The admissions office could have seen a relatively high number of EA students send in deposits and estimate that the yield for this year would be higher than that in years past.

@ Jamal5: I know that higher the ranking, better the yield rate. But if you’ve seen statistics, you’ll notice that UChicago scores much worse on yield rate than many colleges that are even lower in the ranking. I’m just wondering why (besides it being recognized as a really hard college)

My guess is that geography plays a role. The northeast and California to a lesser degree are seen as more desirable.

The south faces the same “stigma”. Look at Duke for example.

A few years ago in a survey of accepted students who did not attend the number one reason given was better FA elsewhere. Perhaps things have changed with the FA given the large donation that was made for FA.
