UCI Academically Dismissed--what now?

Hey everyone,

I just had a quick question about what to do in this situation. I currently have a 1.9 overall GPA at UCI…they academically dismissed me a while ago and I’ve managed to increase my GPA from a 1.5 to a 1.9 but I need a 2.0 to be “readmitted” back in.

I have to take classes through their Extension program but recently they have become more strict on what classes I can take and long story short it’s hard to get classes I need to get A’s in.

I need to get 3 A’s in any classes to get back in to UCI so that my GPA is at a 2.0.

Can anyone suggest what to do in this situation? I think if I take classes at community college it won’t count toward my UC GPA. Is there any option I can do like academic renewal (I have no idea what that is…I’ve only heard people talk about it…)

Please let me know if you know any solutions or advice!

Thank you

I think that your first step has to be figuring out what has gone wrong in the past, to prevent it from happening again.

Is it that you really did work your hardest, and were simply in over your head academically? Should you consider changing your major to something less challenging? Did you continually misjudge how hard you would need to work to maintain the kind of grades you need? Did you party too much? Skip too many classes?

I’m not asking for answers-- it’s none of my business. But I think YOU need to know the answers before you proceed any further.

OK, now to the question you actually asked:
It sounds as though you need to raise your GPA by 0.1 by the fall in order to continue your studies? And as though there is a very limited amount of time left in which to do so-- you would have to take summer courses??

I would call TODAY and meet with an advisor this afternoon if possible-- see exactly what your options are.

In many cases people get readmitted by taking courses at a community college and getting As and Bs. Did they recommend a certain number of community college courses? Have you checked with your counselor on that option? I agree with with @bjkmom that you need to figure out how to do well if you are still not getting at least a 2.0 through Extension courses
