Man, I had a 4.0 my first year of community college… after I started dating someone my grades totally slipped. They’re not bad, but I definitely wish I’d focused just a teensy bit more. You made the right decision. Haha. I also wish I’d applied to UCSD. My major is political science and they have an incredible program. But I don’t know anyone in San Diego and I’m not sure who I’d move in with (definitely couldn’t afford a place on my own). Everyone I talk to is like “I could totally see you at Berkeley, you liberal freak, but why UCI?” and my answer is always something like “I miss the beach…”

I should probably know this but what’s your major… weren’t you the aerospace engineering one?

@melaniedear: You know what? Go wherever your heart takes you. Go visit the schools you get into even if you have already visited them before. If your lucky, you’ll actually feel the connection. You might also be like me where you visit a school and think that it wasn’t “too bad” but then later, you start thinking even more and more about the school. The “not too bad” quickly becomes a, "I could totally see myself going there ". Besides, who needs 24 more months of misery?

Political Science seems really fun. I really considered it because I’m uber interested in world affairs and all things political but then I realized that my liking for it was more of a hobby. Yes, I did apply as Aerospace Engineering but I’m probably not doing engineering anymore. How’d you end up choosing Poli Sci?

I hate this! I am not waiting up again. I would rather wake up to a beautiful acceptance anyway. Like at 6 am when I am waking up for class and am cursing the world for an 8:20 class and a 40 minute drive.

COME ON!! IM FREAKIN WOMENS STUDIES NOT LIKE MORE THAN 4 PEOPLE APPLY TO THAT ANYWAY WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO REVIEW I HAVE A TAG! A TAG I SAY!

@walleats In high school, I was singularly focused on theatre to the point where I basically blew off all my other classes. I went immediately to this tiny little conservatory in New York City where I did nothing but acting day in and day out. It was actually amazing, and I got a lot better, but by the end of it, I was so completely emotionally exhausted from standing up in front of the class every day doing Meisner techniques and trying to tap into my emotions and stuff… anyway, long story short, I realized I hadn’t really given real school enough of a chance. I went back to California, enrolled in a CC, and my first semester I took an amazing class that got me really interested in politics and world issues. I didn’t change my major right away, but I knew almost immediately that that’s what I wanted to study. Now I’m kinda regretting it though, because law schools get SO many poli-sci majors that I would have a far greater chance with some non-law-related major (like physics or foreign languages).

I would be so thrilled to go to Berkeley… as soon as I moved here and visited, I knew how happy I’d be there. But I think I’d be content at Irvine, too. It’s definitely a case of “not too bad” turning into “I could really see myself here.” I miss being the only liberal in a crowd of conservatives, believe it or not… it makes things interesting.

Thanks for your advice. What are you going to do instead of engineering?

I want to be a doctor! But that means that I have to stay away from Berkeley’s hyper-competitive pre-meds even if I get in because Med schools look more on grades than school reputation but UCSD also has a good reputation. Plus, they have this really cool major called Cognitive Science which totally seems to fit me!

Ok, so you’re life is now wayyyy more exciting than mine! I’m sure you’ll do fine with a Poli Sci degree because because you seem to really like your major.

i guess a lot of ppl are checking their decisions. I have been trying to get on the website for the past 10mins n it wouldn’t load? Anyone else have that??
