***UCI Class of 2021 Applicants***

The package was simple but cute! Love the stickers and the little map about how to prepare for freshman year.

Received package. Selected in CHP first, then Regents. Scholarship $10,000.

Does anyone know if they would not give CHP or regents to a commuter? We put live at home on the FAFSA. I am just surprised my son did not get it as his stats are way high for UCI. Feeling nervous that he won’t get accepted. He was already admitted to UCSD but would be really nice to have the option for him to go to a school where we could save on housing!

@ZHB1999 I don’t think commuting should have anything to do with it, but I could very well be wrong. I would not worry if I were you; the UCs can be extremely random. If it helps, I got UCI CHP but haven’t heard from UCSD yet, and I live in the SD area.

Thanks @wormholes. It is interesting though that we are both in same situation so to speak. I just read on a Berkeley thread that someone in the past got into UCSD with regents but was not notified ahead of time . Offer just came with admission offer.

@ZHB1999 I don’t think it has anything to do with what you put on the FAFSA. It could have to do with what was put in your essays or on your application. More than anything else, it probably has to do with your major as they try to spread CHP recipients throughout all majors.

Below is copy and pasted from post #80. @BunnyBlue found this information about how CHP is selected.

Hello. For anyone who is curious to know how many people get invited into CHP.

"The majority of CHP students enter as incoming freshmen. The size of
the incoming freshman class ranges from 160-200 students. Incoming freshmen are
selected by the Honors Program Board in early winter quarter from the pool of applicants to
UCI. Students at this level are sought after by many colleges and are difficult to recruit.
Admission to the Campuswide Honors Program is a benefit that helps attract top students to
UC Irvine.

From the total pool of UC Irvine applicants, a sorting formula that includes SAT scores and
high school GPA is used to identify the top 7,000 applicants to UC Irvine. From this pool,
each member of the Honors Program Board receives a list of top applicants to their
particular school. In addition to these scores, the faculty on the Honors Program Board
have within the past 5 years added new data points, including the high school Academic
Performance Index (API Score) and the Admissions “read score.” Honors Program
Board members are also offered access to the electronic application.

Each Honors Program Board member is given a target number of students to select,
which is based on the relative size of the school’s student population in relation to the
university as a whole. In this way, selected students are distributed throughout the university
and are not concentrated in a single major or school. In addition to the schools, a
selection is made for Undecided/Undeclared students by the Dean of Undergraduate
Education. Students selected for the CHP and admitted to UC Irvine are then given
special attention by the CHP staff and the Office of Admissions, including CHP specific
letters, brochures, emails, and recruitment events. These recruiting efforts help bring
outstanding students to majors throughout the campus."

@ZHB1999 You would think that with UCs putting 3 kids in doubles and 2 in single rooms that they would favor kids who commute because it would free up more dorm space.

Will decisions be coming out starting tomorrow?

@kmde307 what makes you think that? do you mean regular?

@kmde307 I think that March 1-30 (that they post on the website) is the general time frame where they might start rolling, but typically it’s mid-to-late March. Last year UCI said “early March” but decisions didn’t start rolling out until the 16th (or maybe the 17th? I forget. but it was definitely mid-march)

hey everyone! Can you guys chance me.
SAT: 1280/1600

GPA (unweighted):3.97

@Gumbymom Thanks for the infor about UC GPA

WHAT DOES IT SAY IF YOU NOT BEEN ADMITTED. I HAVE “WE HAVE RECEIVED YOUR FRESHMAN APPLICATION” IS IT SUPPOSED TO BE PENDING REVIEW?!?!?!

@mvtttc nah i have the same thing as you lol

Apparently Irvine is still accepting kids into the honors program? My counselor called and they said they are doing rolling admissions.

Maybe their rolling admissions goes by intended major groups?

Has anyone gotten accepted into the Computer Science Game Design program yet?

thanks so much! @lkg4answers
