***UCI Class of 2021 Applicants***

Here is the post that @BunnyBlue referenced. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-irvine/1862532-uc-irvine-class-of-2020-admissions-results-stats-discussion-p5.html

I copied and pasted post #72 below:

Hello. For anyone who is curious to know how many people get invited into CHP.

"The majority of CHP students enter as incoming freshmen. The size of
the incoming freshman class ranges from 160-200 students. Incoming freshmen are
selected by the Honors Program Board in early winter quarter from the pool of applicants to
UCI. Students at this level are sought after by many colleges and are difficult to recruit.
Admission to the Campuswide Honors Program is a benefit that helps attract top students to
UC Irvine.

From the total pool of UC Irvine applicants, a sorting formula that includes SAT scores and
high school GPA is used to identify the top 7,000 applicants to UC Irvine. From this pool,
each member of the Honors Program Board receives a list of top applicants to their
particular school. In addition to these scores, the faculty on the Honors Program Board
have within the past 5 years added new data points, including the high school Academic
Performance Index (API Score) and the Admissions “read score.” Honors Program
Board members are also offered access to the electronic application.

Each Honors Program Board member is given a target number of students to select,
which is based on the relative size of the school’s student population in relation to the
university as a whole. In this way, selected students are distributed throughout the university
and are not concentrated in a single major or school. In addition to the schools, a
selection is made for Undecided/Undeclared students by the Dean of Undergraduate
Education. Students selected for the CHP and admitted to UC Irvine are then given
special attention by the CHP staff and the Office of Admissions, including CHP specific
letters, brochures, emails, and recruitment events. These recruiting efforts help bring
outstanding students to majors throughout the campus."

@Foodlover228579 thats a good score, you shouldnt be worried.

So if we didnt get an email, we didnt get into the honors program? And do they use unweighted or weighted gpa? isnt it kind of unfair to use uw since course rigor may differ??

@lkg4answers Dang, really, only 200ish people accepted into CPH? I’m very surprised I got into the program, since I have friends with better stats not get into it.

I have no idea what is the difference between getting Regents vs. Campuswide Honors. I know Regents recipients get the money, so it seems to me Regents is basically Honors plus money, and Honors is just Honors and no money. But the funny thing is I have seen some people not only in UCI but other UCs with relatively lower GPAs and test scores get Regents, and some people with very high GPAs and test scores not get Regents. For example, I met one student at UCB with 3.8 gpa and 2000 SAT who got Regents.

@websensation: Each UC campus has their own criteria for awarding Regents and the applicant’s stats are only part of the criteria. UCSB will put a large emphasis on community service and leadership based on past postings for Regent scholar’s so UCI may do the same. It all depends upon what they are looking for in an individual applicant.

@Cocohorse that’s why I copy and pasted the what was posted in the other thread. It depends on what major you declared and what major your friends declared.

Is biomedical engineering competitive?

So do they typically continue sending them out this month or is it just a thing today and that’s it? For honors/regent.

@JuicyMango: All Engineering majors are competitive.
Last years average UC GPA for BME was 4.18 and average SAT (Math+CR Old) was 1292.

http://www.oir.uci.edu/files/adm/IA27-fall-fr-mean-hsgpa-by-major.pdf?R=544517

@JuicyMango Assuming biomedical engineering is like other schools, I think it would be one of the most competitive majors. Just a guess though.

Accepted with honors for humanities!! So, it’s because we made the honors program / regent’s scholarship they released our admissions decisions so early, right?

@Gumbymom Ah darn. Do you know the relative weight they give for gpa vs SAT score? GPA is probably most important, right??

My uc gpa is only 3.9 but my Math+CR (old) is 1600.

@lilvent: Yes

@JuicyMango: UCI likes those 4.0+ UC GPA’s, but the 4.18 is the average so there are applicants that were accepted on both sides of that average. You look like a competitive applicant, so all you can do is wait and hope for the best.

Oooooh, sick!

@Gumbymom Thanks for the info!

Bummer…well hopefully I can just get in during March. I didn’t know my gpa was THAT below average. Kind of scaring me now…

@JuicyMango I wouldn’t worry if I were you! Honestly, it’s probably because you applied to a very competitive major. I know someone with higher stats than me who didn’t get accepted yet, probably because they applied as an engineering major, whereas I got accepted, perhaps because I applied for a pure sciences major. Good luck!

Kind of confused:
So if we did not get admitted in the last couple of days, does that mean we are not in Honors/Regents? Or are more invites coming out with the March decisions?
And there’s still the chance of being admitted in March, but just not to your chosen major correct?

@languages: If UCI follows the same protocol for the last few years: The CHP/Regents acceptances are posted for the next several days. Then starting at the beginning of March, the next wave of decisions are posted and they will continue for several weeks through March. You still can get into your 1st choice major when they post in March.

@Gumbymom Thanks for the clarification, so you are saying they are not done posting Honors&Regents yet?
