***UCI Class of 2021 Applicants***

@languages: It is hard to tell since some accepted students do not post right away, so the Decision Threads show students posting over several days.

Congratulations @ginergerspark99!! What are your stats?

@Gumbymom Do you happen to know if UCI adcom take SAT subject tests into consideration? What about AP test scores? (for the regular decision, cause I know honors is only based on gpa + sat score)

can someone chance me please? 3.6 gpa and 31 act but pretty solid essays

AP test scores are not considered for admissions. They are only for college credit. Doing well in the AP class would impact your chances more than your test scores.

This is what UCI states about SAT subject tests:
SAT Subject Test scores are no longer required. However, submission of SAT Subject Test scores may add positively to your application’s review.

Admitted with Honors for Computer Science, 4.2 UC GPA, 33 ACT. Congrats to all of you.

Also, @lkg4answers, I’m pretty sure they don’t do this by taking the very top of the applicant pool - because I have friends with far better GPAs than I and perfect ACT scores that didn’t get admitted early. But I’m not really sure, just thankful for the admission offer

@FinesseDolphin I copy and pasted that info from last year’s acceptance thread. I’m just as in the dark about this process as everyone else.

@lkg4answers for sure. I’m just curious as to why they didn’t admit those people instead of me. What I’m guessing is that they didn’t admit the very top right away, because they figured they’d probably go to a more competitive college anyway. That’s what Cal Poly does at least, and it would make sense.

I don’t know if anyone said this but in the letter in the admissions portal Irvine said that the average gpa for this years regent scholars was like 4.3 and the SAT score 2226. They seemed to have picked kids with less than perfect scores to admit early but it seems like they did care about numbers when choosing who to give regents and honors to.

@LindsayHarvard …thats basically perfect stats. Even colleges like Harvard, MIT, Stanford only have SAT averages of 2250 (barely higher than the posted UCI average). They definitely picked kids with extremely high scores and gpa who need the extra incentive to go, since they’ll definitely get into other great schools.

@JuicyMango That’s what I figured too, at least for honor’s and Regents. It seems to be a standard tactic for good schools that aren’t necessarily top tier. After reading the portal again I was pretty surprised to see posts on here say that their stats weren’t so great but they still got in, but I was thinking maybe they only got admittance and weren’t included in the stats Irvine posted? Or they picked a bunch of really high scorers to offset the average

@davisgirl Thanks! My UW GPA was 3.97 and ACT 33. SAT Chem was 750 and math 2 was 800. I come from a highly competitive school in NorCal-just a side note. I didn’t volunteer at any hospitals/clinics but had plenty of public health/medical exposure by volunteering at non-profits (600+ hours)!

@LindsayHarvard where in the admissions portal did you find those statistics?

This is what I see listed in the FAQ section:

How do I join the honors program?

Freshmen: Many entering freshmen are invited to the program while in their senior year in high school. No application is required. Based on the student's UC Irvine Admissions Application, faculty in the UCI school of the student's major make this selection. Invitation letters are sent in late February and are conditional upon the students' acceptance by UCI Admissions and completion of the UC Entry level writing requirement before students begin their coursework in the fall.

Transfers: 'Honors to Honors' – This pilot program through UCI’s Office of Admissions is available through a group of partner community colleges. Check with your community college honors counselor to see if your college participates in this program. A 3.7 GPA and successful completion of the honors program at your community college is required. Please note that, once you have been admitted to UC Irvine as an Honors to Honors student, your final community college transcript must reflect successful completion of the community college honors program and a 3.7 overall GPA in order to remain in the Campuswide Honors Program and to retain the Regent's Scholarship.

What do I do if I was not selected for the honors program this year?

Current students at UCI or students transferring to UCI may apply to join the Program. You may get an application from the CHP office and turn it in after completing a quarter of study at UCI. Students must have a 3.5 GPA in college courses taken in order to be eligible for consideration; however, those who are chosen usually have GPAs higher than this minimum. Transfer students may also apply prior to admission.

@LindsayHarvard Haha yeah its really easy for them to meddle with their stats to make themselves look more impressive. I highly doubt those are actually the averages, it seems a little too high. I would expect something like that from Berkeley or UCLA regents.

@JuicyMango @LindsayHarvard I don’t think they would purposely meddle with their stats. The 4.31 GPA is probably uncapped, which doesn’t make it super high. Also, a lot of the students selected for Honors or Regents at UCI will likely get into top UCs (LA, B, SD) so I think it makes sense that the stats are high? This is just my opinion, of course.

@lkg4answers I made a mistake in phrasing, it’s not in the admissions portal, but in the letter given to those who received regents it sais this:

“Our freshmen Regents’ Scholars class of 2021 is an impressive group.
Average High School GPA: 4.30
Average SAT Score: 2226
Among you are:
Bowl Champions. Student ambassadors, class treasurers, and academic decathletes.School choralists, newspaper editors in chief, and organizers of campus clean-up projects. Members of Student Council, Associated Student Body, and the National Honor Society. Musicians in school and county bands, orchestras, elite performance groups and symphonies.Hospital assistants, research assistants at universities, and tutors at elementary schools.Athletes in Badminton, Basketball, Soccer, Tennis, Track and Field, Lacrosse, Field Hockey, Volleyball and Water Polo.”

@wormholes I never meant to imply they where lying or anything, just wondering whether the average might be skewed because of some really high scorers because some people said kids with much lower stats than those got it. Averages in general don’t really give a full pictuee

@LindsayHarvard No I wasn’t trying to imply that you said they were lying at all; sorry if it came off that way! It’s all good…we’re all just speculating haha

@wormholes Totally understand lol. Personally a 4.3 seemed super high to me, especially as an average because it’s not even possible at my High School without some serious GPA gaming. A 2220 is also top 1%. I guess it’s totally possible UCI just has seriously high standards though

got into UCI with regents! pretty cool that they automatically give it without application. wish i got it for ucla though

@LindsayHarvard Ohhh I thought the averages were for students who only got honors, not regents. Those averages are definitely possible for regents students.

I don’t even know why I care so much, I didn’t get honors or regents :p.
