UCI - competitive?

when you say that some kids have to take biochem and orgo in the same quarter do you mean they HAVE to take it (as in mandatory) or its just something taht is "recommended." Correct me if im wrong but i thought you could choose/space out your courses-or is this just not possible in the bio major.

You cannot take biochem until you are taking 2nd quarter o-chem or if you've already completed it. You can't really spread these out or you'll be in school forever.

What about summer school courses? Are they substantially more difficult?

Hey alicantekid, specifically which type of biology were you talking about (in post #20)?
* Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
* Biological Sciences
o Specializations: Cell Biology; Developmental Biology; Ecology; Evolution; Microbiology; Molecular Biology and Biochemistry; Neurosciences; Physiology; Plant Sciences
* Developmental and Cell Biology
* Ecology & Evolutionary Biology
* Genetics
* Neurobiology
* Plant Biology
* Applied Ecology (offered jointly with School of Social Ecology-admission not available in fall 2006)
* Minor: Biological Sciences
* Biomedical Engineering
o Specialization: Biophotonics
* Biomedical Engineering: Premedical

Wow, a lot of you guys are giving me a good insight of the UCI's difficulty...

I'm pretty much referring to bio in general. Regardless of your major within the school of biological sciences, you all take the same lower division classes, and some of the upper division ones can overlap. Plus, when I was at UCI they only had the one major in bio sci. The other more specialized ones have been added over the last 5 or so years.
