UCI Transfer 2014 decisions

Ohhh okay so for transfer students in general. It’s definitely 3.0 to probably even be considered. @WhiteTiger84

She said that’s a competitive GPA. O_O So I guess we’re competitive applicants as long as it’s at least a 3.0! :)

Wait 3.0? I think it’s 3.0 to be considered like @Mik194‌ said… But I hope it’s 3.0 haha!

3.0 being “competitive” is total BS. If you want to be considered competitive and your major isn’t impacted, have a GPA around or higher than the TAG GPA, which is 3.4.

If you look at previous year’s threads, most people who got accepted weren’t ones with 3.0s, they had GPAs much higher than that. With more and more applicants every single year, it only goes up.

@‌smltk1505h

I talked to an admissions officer this morning so… I’m not sure why you’re so worked up with your theory. She was actually pleasant to talk to and answered every single question that I had. If you don’t believe the words of an actual admissions officers then…I don’t know what to tell ya.

@whitetiger‌84 @smltk1505h‌ I gotta say I side with smltk on this no matter what the admissions said. 3.0 is simply not competitive. You can see what the average admissions rates are as they are documented each year. 3.0 is skimming the very very very bottom.

Looking at collegedata, for freshman average GPA is 3.89, granted it will be lower for transfers.
http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg01_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=730</a></p>

Very few will get admitted under a 3.0. Granted that a lot of majors ( PSB, Sociology etc) can range from a gpa of 3.0-3.4/3.5. Even then most of these majors start at 3.2. So yes you can possibly get in with a gpa of 3.0 if you’re not a popular major.

How do we know which majors are impacted? On other threads all the people who were accepted from last year had really high gpas and that makes me even more nervous especially since more applied this year.

A 3.5 should be considered competitive. 3.0 would be “yeah, you meet the requirements”

Last years thread can be misleading. The people that did get in with low GPAs probably won’t tell everyone their GPA because of embarrassment. Then the impaction issue does play a huge part. Regardless, we don’t know anything for sure, despite the credibility of sources, until admissions results come out.

@blink8, One way to find out is to locate that particular UCs admit stats per major. There is a very detailed breakdown of avg. GPA, # that applied, # that were omitted, etc. I’ve seen it for UCLA. Based on GPA average, that will give you a good sense of very competitive/impacted majors.

Here is UCLA’s so search similar words, or probably the popular majors are pretty close.
https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_tr/Tr_Prof13.htm</a></p>

There is no admit stats page for any other UC besides UCLA @lindyk8

@mik194 but if you look at UCLA you can at least extrapolate the general level of GPA per major. Most likely one with a really low GPA admit at UCLA will be low at UCSD, one with a high will be high.

Mmmm somewhat. Still can’t really grasp the average gpa for each school. UCLA is particular in prereq completion as well. UCSD and UCI are more forgiving.

What is your major @Mik194‌ ?

Hahah Social Ecology for UCI. Some people don’t know what that even is @lindyk8

Wow, I see what you mean about cross-referencing, @Mik194‌ ! It sounds really interesting. Is it related to cognitive science in any way, or probably communication in social groups? I’m grasping here, haha. The fact that it’s relatively new could mean you stand a better than average shot.

You’re heading in the right direction! Its a very broad major. Social ecology is the interactions between humans and their environment. Human development and aging, Modern life &environmental health, are some of the topics that are included in the major. It’s a very cool major and is almost a combination of social sciences and biology. It’s supposed to be very new and i haven’t heard of anyone being that major! Thanks, though  @lindyk8
