UCI Transfer 2014 decisions

@bhav007, nice, any answer from any of those schools yet ? What are your stats if you dont mind sharing?

My case is a bit different, I’m 28, I have like 90 units completed already, and for the past year and most recent 40 units my gpa is like 3.9. Tons of work experience, also some extracurriculars etc.

The problem is I messed up big time back in the day when I was 19. Failed a bunch of classes, and quit school to start own business. My gpa was like 1.57 lol. Now it’s 2.8 cumulative, still horrible, so I applied just for the heck of it I guess lol

Just FYI, to those that are still waiting, I checked around 5PM and I didn’t see a change in my status, but when I logged in after 6PM, I saw my acceptance. I know exactly how you guys feel… HANG IN THERE and best of luck to everyone else that’s still waiting to hear back!!!

@gawdzillah‌, I finished calc 1-3 & linear algebra as well. For programming, I finished Java & Java Data Structures (and one more programming class, which was just a prereq for the first Java class and doesn’t count as UC credit but will show up on transcript at least). I haven’t done discrete math; :confused: I hope it doesn’t affect the decisions too much.

Accepted 4/17
Major: CS
GPA: 3.80
Pre-reqs: out of the ones available at my CC, 2-3 missing (but I think they are advisory)
IGETC: Yes
TAG: No

@Overtoad‌,

Oh i see, that’s great that you’ve been improving your grades by a whole lot recently (I mean, a 3.9 in last 40 units!). My major is computer science, and I have a 3.47 GPA; I didn’t apply to any CSU’s because I didn’t take a speech class, and I know that’s one of the mandatory classes.

@gawdzillah‌ that’s really good! I’ve done the 2 computer science courses that’s required. and quite a few programming classes and earned a professional certification in c++, but i’m only starting my calc series so I might be screwed because of that. And it doesn’t look like they count programming classes as their prerequisite.

@bhav007, Thanks man. Yeah its stupid they make you take speech but I think you can still apply, or is it a required prereq? btw I am also CS major at this point. :)

@Overtoad‌, nice! Yah, I mean you can still apply, but I think you have to have a very high GPA to make them not really care about the speech class anymore (at least for Cal Poly SLO I think). Also, I decide that I will get into at least one of the UC’s I applied to so I was fine with not applying to a CSU (plus, I’m already taking too many classes to have any more space for another class).

@bhav007 I got accepted to SJSU without a speech class. Rejected from Cal Poly SLO though.

@underbear‌, nice, where else have you gotten in so far (I think I saw you post on this thread earlier today with an acceptance for UCI)?

EDIT: You have that 3.8 gpa that I envy.

@gawdzillah, wow that’s interesting, congrats though! did you have a really good essay then?

@bhav007 just UCI so far. Hoping for UCSD!

@randombookie‌

Doubt it, I spent like 30 minutes to an hour to finish both of the essays/responses since I found out that UCD and UCSD don’t really look at them, and those are my top 2 choices.

Accepted, today.
