hey college confidential, I was recently admitted into UCD, UCI, and UCSD and was wondering if you guys could give me any advice as far as choosing the right school for me. I would love to go to Davis as it's closer to home and i have a lot of friends and a girlfriend there. But ultimately i dont think i should attend because it doesnt have my major. (i'd be coming in as a psychology major and i want to major in public health)

UCI and UCSD both have public health undergrad majors and i feel as though i should start thinking about which one i want to attend as soon as possible.

While academics are important to me, i'm also interested in having a good time at college (you only get that experience once!)

as a bit of background, I have maybe a couple more friends at UCI than UCSD and i've visited UCI already. The campus seemed somewhat dead and that worried me. I plan on visiting UCSD after the semester ends and before the SIR is due.

so yeah! do any of you have any advice? I really want to consider this decision from all angles as it's very important to me.

Hmm I’m going to be a public health major too. What do you want to go into after undergrad? UCI has public health policy and public health sciences. I chose UCI because it knocked off prereqs for what I want to do ( optometry or dentistry) and is basically what interests me. It’s more specific than UCSD’s public health

@Mik194 i’m going into epidemiology. at irvine i’d be public health sciences. UCSD’s public health program is new so i was thinking maybe they’d pander more to my needs since it may not be as firmly established as UCI’s yet. also i think UCSD takes igetc in stead of the lower division GE’s.

What it comes down to i guess is i’m worried that i’ll find UCSD boring… Have you heard anything about UCI’s social life?

If you’re only worried about social life then they’re both almost the same. I find UCI fun and there’s a bunch of stuff to do ( beach, irvine spectrum). My cousins go to UCSD and they said it’s pretty dead but they find stuff to do as well. It’s all about how you utilize your time!
