<p>suze, UCLA does not do "a quick reading." In fact, the UC systems admissions reviews, being Comprehensive, can be considerably less "quick" than at many Ivies. It's just that the process is different, priorities are different, etc. Factoring in campus-specific standards, variations in admissions are not uncommon.</p>

team captain varsity tennis team, prez of a club, positions in others, a feww hundred volunteer hours, oh AND like the best 3 essays I could have written in under 3 hours....yeah so even if it is 25 percent admission rate, its still competitive....</p>

<p>i got in!! im excited. i duno how i got in considering i didnt break 2000 on my SATS, but my GPA was 3.97 unweighted 4.37 weighted w/ heavy involvement at school (asb, clubs)</p>

<p>epiphany, are you kidding? Have a talk with my great aunt who has worked in admissions at 2 ivies, BU and not at UCLA. The numver of adcoms alone tells the story. They can not possibly take the time per app that a well funded private can. I did call to ask after what appeared here today. The acceptance rate is over 35% as the yield is low. Many of these kids are still waiting for Cal, ivies and top LACs. Money will be a big issue, but UCs offer many loans and many middle class students will do better with grants from top privates.</p>
<p>The top applicants will be fought over by top privates, they will want to make it attractive. Those rejected are highly unlikely to get into an ivy or top LAC without a hook that a UC can't utilixe--mainly urms. All of this is just fact.</p>

i kno 10 people personally that are gonna decline ucla anyway (myself included)</p>
