UCLA 2020 Transfer Rejection Squad

Hello everyone,
This is for people to discuss possibly appealing their rejection! Share ideas and lets take this opportunity and have the ability to say we did all we could!

I am a History major :slight_smile:
I run track and field
I have volunteered at elementary schools
I worked as a waitress
I was a full time student
My gpa is not the best 3.3 but I thought my essays would make up for that through my unique circumstances
I plan to appeal after speaking with my schools UCLA representative and calling UCLA admissions to find out why I got rejected
I got accepted to UCI, UCSB, UCSD, Cal Long Beach State, Cal Poly Pomona

I am an Electrical Engineering major
I am an embedded math tutor at my school (I’m known as a really good tutor so if they allow letter of recs I hope to send one)
I have an engineering internship
I was a full time student
I did bad my first semester because I didn’t like being at a CC but I definitely showed an upwards trend
I completed all my major prep including all the recommended courses except 1 because of a schedule conflict
I applied with a 3.56 which is why I got rejected but I want to appeal
I have a very low GPA considering I’m a STEM major but I really think I have been doing a lot better with grades and my first semester really dragged me down

Fun facts: I was born at UCLA and it would’ve been cool if I ended up where I was born
UCLA’s Engineering school asks my family for donations and we give it to them

Do you guys think I have a good reason to appeal?

I think anyone that believes they deserve a spot there should try. UCLA is giving you a resource to shoot your shot, might as well take it. Make sure you add information that is new and evidence that is not already mentioned in your application. Do you have an ideas on what you might say?

@arana, just being dead honest here… an essay is rarely sufficient to make up for a GPA difference like your’s where you’re considerably below 25th percentile. And working as a waitress and volunteering do not qualify as “unique circumstances,” you’re competing against people who have stellar ECs when trying to get a spot at UCLA. You got accepted to some great schools, and trust me when I say UCLA is not as glamorous as you may think (i’m a couple months away from graduating here). I guess it won’t hurt to appeal obviously

@ericbadmon I appreciate your honesty. In my essays I didn’t speak about my waitressing I spoke about my track and field experiences and I spoke about how my recent mother’s incarceration took an affect on me throughout college. I was just giving insight on the type of person I am on the post. I am very happy with the schools I got accepted into, I just wanted to give another shot before I say I did all I could I guess.

@ericbadmon hb me?

So I got accepted by all of the UC’s I applied to (CAL, UCSD, UCI) but got rejected at UCLA. I already committed to CAL but I was just wondering as to why UCLA rejected me so I logged into the Appeal decision portal and it still says that my application is still under review? I’m a bit confused about what this means because I thought they had already rejected me?

@lolol4565 same

Same, what does that mean?

I think it’s because they don’t start accepting appeals until May 1st

I think so too, I am sure there will be an option on our portal

I got rejected to… I think it’s because I’m taking summer classes… I just filed an appeal and I don’t know if they’ll accept me, because I’m taking summer classes… so I just hope I’ll make it… I’m writing my appeal about when I first started college, I failed 5 classes and how I struggled to focus on my studies, and then going to vocational school, because I didn’t know what to do with my life. Yea… I don’t think I’ll make it in on appeal… but it’s worth a shot, I guess.

@UCLAgirl
Things happen and as long as you learn from your failures you will be a stronger person and student. Make sure you explain why you failed and why it was hard to focus on studying. Explain your whole journey and make sure you tell them that due to your experience you will be a great addition to UCLA. I wish you the best of luck.
