UCLA Adm./Rej. Post stats up in here

i can see that UCLA accepts people very oddly

1230 sat 3.6 gpa - Accepted --- what the helll?

There system is flawed and gives way too many points to poor people, first gen, and those that are so called disadvantaged.

Arguably, UCLA rejects stellar students because they know such students are more likely to reject UCLA when the tables turn.

that isn't true for me.

REJECTED

Well, it was expected, with me not getting the engineering letter and all.

Bakke v. Regents of University of California

Quota systems are illegal but advantageous programs for minorities and historically disadvantaged people are still legal. Lets not turn this thread into an AA debate. We know it's not fair, but we know it does accomplish its goal for existing: "diversity", quote unquote.

If you're Asian, like me, aim for 1400+ and 4.0+ GPA or else you're going to get royally screwed.

well if you're white like me and only get a 1220, you get screwed as well :)

Rejected

"theres plenty of other first gen and immigrants that get rejected with better stats than my crappy 3.6 gpa and 1230 sat.....so why do you guys think i got in?"

You got in. That's all that matters. Of course, you'll have people that try to downplay your admissions, but once you graduate with a degree from LA, no one's going to question your acceptance. Congrats.

My GPA must have killed me. 3.6 or something.

UCLA must really not factor in affirmative action. URM here.

ACCEPTED:
NYU, CSUs (SF, SJ, SD, LB)

If anything, the decisions are even more erratic this year than last year.
UCLA's applicant pool is shrinking, yet we still see them reject a lot of really good people. This is a travesty.
It's almost like they ran out of time. If anyone needs appeals, they can ask me. I helped people appeal into Davis, and one into UCLA (one person appealed Berkeley but was turned down). I was accepted to all last year, but I know appeals work as long as you are more outstanding than the average acceptee. And believe me, YOU WILL find something new to add to your apps.

"Arguably, UCLA rejects stellar students because they know such students are more likely to reject UCLA when the tables turn."

That is the most absurd comment I've seen. Accepting students wont at all hurt UCLA, in fact, it helps them in two ways
1)Leaves the good applicants in good terms with the University, if they aren't gonna attend.
2)How do they know that the stellar student wont attend?

The only positive is that it will help UCLA raise matriculation rates for a PR stunt, which UCLA is known to do. Mr Tran, the admissions director has already made the UCLA admissions committee a joke. In a way like you, he argued that the falling applicant pool has to do with UCLA's selectivity.

I'm sorry, but I dont think a click and an extra 40 dollars will stop anyone from applying to something that might drastically alter their lives. And it's increasing selective should make it more satifying to get into UCLA, so more people might apply. It's like saying that you aren't going to spend 40 dollars to play a lottery that you have a 5-10% chance of winning 100,000 dollars.

Way to go in this stupidity!

doesn't it all freaking depend on your majors? duh? i mean if you want to major in biology or engineering or something like that, you need some wild stats...but like if you're planning to major in like art or some stuff you don't need to like work your butt off....~just my thoughts~...
