UCLA and UT-A

I know both are really god schools. I'm looking into engineering (mostly mechanical but maybe petroleum) and I know that UT Austin has one of the best mech eng programs in the country and the best petro eng in the nation.
I want to know which would be a better fit for me. Both have big campuses so overall class size doesn't matter. I don't particularly need special attention from a teacher (from high school presprectve, don't know how much that changes in college). Both seem very social schools. How are frats at each school and what are initiation rituals like (I know it varies from frat to frat but the harshness is different from each school as well). How is the nightlife and safety? Which would prepare me better for grad school engineering?

Both school would prepare you equally well for graduate school.

If you plan to go into Petroleum Engineering, there’s a HUGE advantage of going to a school in Texas. A vast majority of the oil companies are headquartered in Texas and recruit heavily from UT-Austin. The ease of getting a job is head and shoulders better at UT.

I"d agree with liu02bhs: Petroleum Engineering, Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, etc, would be great choices.

yeah, I dont think UCLA even has petro

persaonlly i’d go with UT Austin, i think youd get a better experience academically and socially there : )

Academically UCLA is the superior institution, however for your particular area it is not available to my knowledge. Socially, it depends on what you are looking for, but I would take L.A. over Austin any day of the week.

both seem socially superior than any other school
