@NonCustParent - Not sure if you even read my comment. I am arguing for a higher cross-admit rate. That means a higher percentage of people accepted by both colleges. I think you should read first before calling me delusional. Additionally, I clearly wrote that people who are accepted by UCLA definitely have a better chance at UCB, however, I also argued that those rejected have a pretty good chance too, contrary to popular belief and coincidence. And as for Conditional Probability Theory, you do know that it is an equation to calculate probability of an event such that another has occured? So i don’t know how the theory proves anything unless you actually find the conditional probability for each scenario, which you didn’t. The theory could have just as easily denounced your argument as it would have supported it.

But end of the day, your son does have a better chance than your daughter, but you shouldn’t count your daughter out yet.

For all who were admitted, have you been recieving multiple phone calls from ucla?

@arabianprincess what are the phone calls about?

Congrats to everyone who got accepted and I believe that UCLA’s admittance rate is lower than Berkeley’s.

Are we still allowed to submit our FAFSA? (this applies for any school) I know, I know…it’s really late, haha.

And I haven’t gotten any phone calls, just the welcome packet in the mail! By the way, are you guys planning on going to Bruin Day?

@arabianprincess I’ve gotten a phone call from the ucla alumni scholarship office (they left me a voicemail saying I should apply) and yesterday I got a call from ucla.

Well the first one was from AAP scholars program or something like that, and the second was from someone who just asked me questions concerning UCLA, and whether or not I am actually considering it or whatnot. Maybe since I’m out of state, they’re trying to recruit me more? Not sure…

Am I screwed (at an academic/extracurricular disadvantage) if it is impossible for me to attend Bruin Day? A family member passed away and another is about to do the same. I can’t leave…

The description for Bruin Day made it seem like the most freaking important first step for every applicant…just…oh my god I hope they are exaggerating…will I be doomed to play the catchup game from the get go?

@schmincke , I’m pretty sure it’s just a day where you visit the campus and they advertise the school to you. I bet not everyone who enrolls goes, so don’t worry if you can’t make it. You can just go on a campus tour another time and read the UCLA website and old threads about Bruin day to get your info haha

Hi, I’m International Student admitted to UCLA Electrical Engineering. Need help to know the ranking of UCLA Undergrad Engineering and if available, EE ranking. I’ve to decide between UCLA, GT, Purdue, UIUC.

Bit of a random question but I was just wondering if UCLA sends out acceptance packets as well? And if they do, do they send they internationally? Thanks!

@ilovecali93 UCLA has sent out acceptance packets, but I am not certain if internationally admitted students receive one as well.

The admit packets smell like maraschino cherries.

@schmincke Bruin day is great but is in no way mandatory. I’m pretty positive it’s happening during coachella which means the attendance will be significantly down compared to normal. My fraternity usually volunteers for it but essentially no one is doing it this year because of coachella. The mandatory event for you to attend is orientation in the summer. Go to Bruin Day if you can because it’s a great way to get your foot in the door and start meeting people/getting a feel for the campus. However don’t worry if you have prior commitments. Bruin Day is like a celebration/congratulations on choosing to go here while orientation is a bit more serious. Both are a ton of fun but orientation is the mandatory event

Has anyone else received several phone calls? I called back and was taken to the UCLA Alumni Association voicemail. I have not answered either of the two times I have been called, but am curious as to what UCLA might be contacting me about.

@UCaliHopeful when the alumni association called me after acceptance all they wanted was money (donations). They also briefly talked about the scholarships that they give out but the main point of the call was that they wanted money. I had the same reaction as you when i missed their first call but i answered the second time and that’s all they wanted

Which class of 2018 facebook group are you guys in? I’m in the one with about 400 members but apparently there’s multiple

@narcissist I’m on the UCLA Welcome App - it’s an actual Facebook App for UCLA admits to congregate that can be organized by student location/major/etc. You should’ve gotten an invitation via email. If there’s an actual Facebook group, I’d like to know about that too haha

Oops, I don’t get internet service on my device so I can’t do the app (unless I’m in Starbucks, haha). But there’s like 3 major groups on facebook…
I’m not too worried about which one is the “best” but I’m afraid it might be limiting if I want to find a roommate or something.

Wow, all those random annoying phone calls I’ve been receiving are making sense now. Good thing my phone has been marking them off as blocked. But I haven’t received the app invite yet. T___T
