Reflection:

Strengths:
very passionate about math, have self taught material from a junior and senior level (university)
decent test scores, but definitely could have been better
shown dedication/work ethic in band/orch
decent grades

Weaknesses:

essay quality
i can’t say for sure that they were bad, but i can’t exactly recall anything memorable from them either
my ethnicity probably isn’t helping me

Got rejected from Caltech EA, deferred and then rejected at MIT (that one sucked), and still waiting on Stanford, Berkeley, and Princeton

Got into the Polymathic Scholars at UT Austin, so that’s there.

Good luck to everyone else, and if you don’t end up getting in somewhere you had really wanted to go (trust me, it does suck), you can always make up for it at another institution with hard work and a positive outlook.

[/ul][ b]Reflection**[ul]
I would recommend applicants to apply to a college early action or decision. Regular Decision has completely ruined my senior year because of the stress and the pressure  I would also insist on applying to few schools (7 or 8 schools).
[] Strengths: the essays, my rank, AP classes (took 14 APs in total during high school)
[
] Weaknesses: I applied to an extremely competitive major (mechanical engineering). The acceptance rate is lower than 14%, but for chemical engineering it is around 35%

Strengths: SAT I score, unique passions and extracurriculars, not a cookie-cutter Asian, international perspective, UCLA loves my school
Weaknesses: GPA, SAT II scores, bad at math
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: It’s a crapshoot! I got lucky
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: UPenn College of Arts and Sciences (likely), Wellesley (likely), Washington University in St. Louis, UC Davis (w/ honors and regents), UCSD, UC Irvine Honors Program w/Regents, and now UCLA!
