I've taken EE2,M16,101,102,103,110,113,161 and Math132 and can say that EE103 and Math 132 were my hardest classes so far. They're hard because the text used are lecture notes written by UCLA professors who tried to condense their text by omitting examples, hence most of the homework problems seem to have no similarity to the readings. This is especially true for the EE103 Vandenberg lecture notes.

The curve might make up for it since others might not do as well either, but I hate the poor quality of education in these kind of classes.

rasenganx, I transferred this fall so I haven't much experience with lower division classes. But I've heard that EE1 = 1st month of EE101. You should be handle to that courseload since you'll have tougher courses later in upper division. EEM16 aka CSM51A don't have insane projects like those CS31/32/33 series so this class should be very manageable. You'll study logic gates, inputs/outputs/functions of both combination and sequential systems, some binary arithmetic, and some logic level modules. And maybe write a little VHDL code. Make sure you come to class and seek office hours if you need help because the book for this class, although a published one, is among one of the worst written books I've ever read!!

For those that have taken it, is MAE 94 easier than MAE 20. I had a horrible time in MAE 20 and am hoping for a better experience with MAE 94 this summer with Professor Jan

I took graphics at a cc, and got credit for MAE 94. I thought engineering graphics was semi useless, and some professors told me its something you can use or not use. You'll learn drafting, orthographic projection, descriptive geometry (which i really hated) and other drafting techniques to view objects at different viewpoints. Basically useing the cad program is easy, but the theory can be difficult because of all the terminology. The only thing i get out of it was how to use AUTOCAD, which you can self study easily. Hopefully your text won't be Technical Graphics Communication by Bertoline. I hear you'll be using solidworks in the design courses like MAE 183, but they don't really teach you how to use it.

what kind of projects will I be doing in CS31 (type of programming, etc) and should I try to teach myself some C++ or Java over the summer? I'll be taking CS31 in winter most likely, after the CS freshman own it in fall.

The CS 31 projects are either text-manipulation, or implementing the skeleton code for a game. Sometimes you just have to complete a stub function and write test code for it. Yes, you should learn as much C++ over the summer as possible.

Nachenberg last quarter that it is most likely his last quarter teaching. He won't be back for awhile especially since he got promoted to a higher position at symantec.
