UCLA Engineering Q&A

Hi flopsy. Please let me know if the following schedule will be too much for winter quarter:

Math 33B
CS 31
EE 101
EE 1
EE 2

Don't want to end up getting raped as I heard the CS series are very tough. Please let me know. Thanks!

Yeah, that's too much. Get rid of EE 101. :rolleyes:

Thank you!

EDIT: Is it OK that I drop EE1 instead? (I might get credit for that), or is EE101 THAT difficult? Thanks again!

I thought ee1 is prereq to ee1?

EE1 is a prereq to EE2, but they are letting me take EE2 because I took an "equivalent" course to EE1 at my old college. Since I felt it was a dumbed down version, I wanted to take EE1 again here to be more prepared for EE2, and since I already have the basics for EE1, taking it again won't be too bad.

Well, the EE 1 material is disjoint from the EE 2 material, so don't presume that re-taking EE 1 at UCLA will actually make you any more prepared for EE 2. :rolleyes:

then i'll be seeing you in ee2 :D

EE 1 -> EE 101 (electromagnetism)

EE 2 -> EE 121B (semiconductor physics)

EE 2 < EE 101 (in terms of difficulty)

flopsy do you know of any good places to get practice c++ projects to work on besides the c++ textbook?

smallberg has successfully scared me into programming to try and prepare for cs 32 :p

The CS 32 textbook has plenty of practice projects. Buy it early, if you can. :rolleyes:

How's EE10 in terms of difficulty?

ahaha I was there when smallberg talked to rohr's class about CS 32. I thought it was pretty hilarious :P
also, if you're looking to save money, the older edition of the CS 32 book would probably suffice and you can get it for about $5 online

HAHAHA YEA grark i was in there too!!!
"take our advice about starting your projects early and cs 32 will be more of a bad nightmare rather than a living hell"
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
"make sure you take at least 16 units so that when you need to drop cs32 because you're failing, you still have the minimum 12 units."

and then he asked around if there was anyone who needed to enroll in cs32 but didnt get a spot and said something like.... just wait until the cs31 grades come out... some people will want to drop cs32 or have to drop cs 32...

that guy is hilarious =]

Does anyone have the MAE 182A book they want to sell? (Elementary DE by Boyce)

If I recall, did flopsy or zero123 someone else say that the book isn't needed?

EE10 ==> easy

EE10 ==> easy

that's what i like to hear :)

Thanks flopsy

Thanks to Fisico as well :)

how difficult would CS 31 be for someone who's never programmed before and doesn't know what the hell C++ is

^

I think it would be easier with Smallberg than Rohr for someone who has no experience.

It also depends on how fast you can catch on to programming. Some people get it; some people just don't.

xasiangirliex: I would get some experience before taking CS 31...from what I hear the majority have taken AP Comp Sci in HS so you would be at a major disadvantage.
