UCLA Engineering Q&A

omg...differential equations is THAT hard??? I am taking it tomorrow! Wish me luck!

EE1 is definitely harder than any of the math 32/33 series (IMO) and I thought it was harder than CS31/32. Expecting EE2 to be worse.

And out of all the math classes, I did the worse in Math33A

does cs 32 have less projects than cs 31 just that they're much bigger and harder than any cs 31 project?

No, 33B is not as hard anymore. The curriculum changed in the recent years; they eliminated the power series solutions, Bessel equations, Laplace, boundary value equations, etc. Everything 33B used to cover is now in MAE 182A (math for engineering)

I think the conceptual topics are most difficult in 32B and 33A for the 30 series. 33B and 32A involves a lot of computations, so it is not as difficult.

There's more projects than CS 31 and they're bigger and harder than CS 31.

On the current CS32 website there are only 4 projects on the syllabus. Do the homework assignment feel like projects themselves?

There's five homework assignments, and each of them feels like a CS 31 project, except for the last one.

how hard is it to transfer from l&s to the school of engineering? assuming i entered as freshman, could you explain to me what the proper steps would be. ive heard it's nearly impossible at la and cal.

i am a freshman and i transferred in october. i filled out a short form and then wrote a paragraph about why i wanted to transfer schools. they evaluate you based on if you had originally applied for engineering

The EE major is supposed to be fairly big... due to enrollment difficulties is it normal to graduate in 4+ years? I'm a freshman and I was able to get Math32b, Physics1b, and CS31 this quarter, but I might have to drop CS... would that put me behind a lot, or enough that I should probably not drop CS?

Yes, dropping CS 31 when it's already Winter Quarter puts you behind a lot. I recommend not dropping CS 31.

Why would it put him behind? Unless he is doing the CompE option or IC pathway, I don't see why he can't put it off until senior year, if he wishes to do so. I know several straight EE majors that have chosen to take CS 31/32 until their last year. Just wondering.

Sorry, I was assuming that electrifice was considering the CE option.

is it possible to still switch discussions after the first week? and if so, do you have to notify the ta that you're switching to their lecture and notify the other one that you're leaving his?

Yes, it is possible to switch discussions during second week, but not after that. You don't have to notify the TAs, although it would be important to do so if this is a lab.

Does anyone have the engineering technical breadth worksheet dated before 10/2007?

I have one thats dated as of 8/18/06 and the current one as of 11/21/07. If anyone has the sheet or the pdf file of a worksheet between those dates, let me know immediately. I believe its been updated at least 2 times between
8/16/06 - 11/21/07

silly, its a fairly difficult thing to do, and there are only a few points in the year that you can apply for the change.

Would it be a really bad idea to switch majors now? I expect a to grad in '09. out of EE btw

Is this a hard schedule?

EE 113
EE 161
EE 110L
EE 115AL
Easy GE

Can anyone who's taken EE upper-division courses please answer this?
