UCLA Fall 2021 Transfers

on the website it says " The UC application allows you to choose an alternate major, but we only guarantee the review of first-choice." So it seems like a possibility, but I personally don’t think they will unless the second major is still within the school of arts. Someone correct me if i’m wrong, but I think I remember reading somewhere that bc the School of Arts and Architecture is a professional school within UCLA they only consider you for the arts major, and if you don’t get in thats it. Bc from my understanding your supplemental/portfolio goes straight to the arts department. Then they send a list of students they want to admit to general admissions, and then they just check to make sure you have fulfilled the requirements. I think it’s a little tricky for us art applicants, wishing you the best of luck!

i’m new to the thread, haha! i’ll introduce myself (:

Major: Communication (rough, I know)
GPA: 3.87
Work experience: I’ve worked as a music teacher for 4 years at a local music shop in my hometown.
ECS: Lots of music-related ECS and lots of volunteer experience w/ my town’s AAUW chapter and Democratic Club.
I’m transferring from a CCC
Finished my IGETC and pre-reqs, no TAP because it wasn’t available at my CC.

Accepted: UC Davis, UC Berkeley
Pending: UCLA, UCSD, USC

I’m super nervous about UCLA since Communication is a highly impacted major ): even though I got into UC Berkeley, I’m not very confident over the fact Communication has a 9% acceptance rate at UCLA.

Hi, any word when USC will notify? Ive read June but would like to know if you’ve heard otherwise. Thanks!

Some kids have already heard back from USC! Seems mostly like kids who applied to Marshall and Dornsife though (I applied to Annenberg). From what I can tell, USC pretty commonly rolls out their acceptances through April into May and sometimes June, but the majority of acceptances from mid-May. There’s really no clear date unfortunately ): and no guarantee they’ll even send it out before June which is stressful! I heard some kids in 2020 were notified of their acceptance into Viterbi Engineering in June and had to last-second rescind their acceptances at places like UCSD.

Congrats on completing your IGETC! I would reach out to admissions and let them know, as I think that makes a big difference. Alternatively, if you are denied, you can appeal with this new information.

Do you live in Socal?
And if you’ve admitted to cal then I think you can wait for ucla with light mind

Yes I live in socal so I’m really leaning on LA cuz cal is tooooo far :frowning:

It really is a myth. I know plenty of students who got admitted to both.

May I ask how you know UC Davis does not read essays? My son was accepted to Irvine and Berkeley, but waitlisted at Davis. He has 3.98 GPA and his essays were some of the best he has ever written. It seems outrageous Davis would not put in the effort.

Oh…
U should go to ucla then… 🥲

Hopefully we both make it!! GL fam

so like Recurrence said, they don’t read essays, BUT they do refer to the essays if theyre missing some information. Probably if they see a blip in grades or overall low GPA.
I got this information straight from UC Davis admissions after emailing them a few days ago

Thank you so much for the info. However, I am so surprised. I feel these essays can really bring a student to life.
